Okay, so I’ve been seeing all these amazing Hispanic Christmas desserts popping up on my feed, and I just had to try making some myself. I’m no expert baker, but I love trying new recipes, especially around the holidays.
Getting Started
First, I did some digging. I mean, “Hispanic Christmas desserts” is pretty broad, right? There are so many different countries and traditions! I decided to focus on a few that looked both delicious and, well, achievable for a regular home cook like me.

The Choices
- Bunuelos: These seemed like a classic – crispy, fried dough with cinnamon and sugar. Who doesn’t love that?
- Flan: Okay, flan is a bit intimidating, but I found a recipe that promised to be “easy,” so I figured I’d give it a shot.
- Alfajores:Two cookies with dulce de leche,What could go wrong? It looks delicious.
The Baking (and Frying) Process
I started with the bunuelos. The dough was pretty simple to make, mostly flour, water, and a little bit of yeast. The tricky part was frying them. I definitely burned a few at first, getting the oil temperature right was a bit of a learning curve! But I got the hang of it eventually, and they turned out pretty good – golden brown and crispy.
The flan was next. I carefully followed the “easy” recipe, whisking the eggs, milk, and sugar together. The caramel part was a little scary – I’ve melted sugar before and it’s easy to burn, but I took it slow and it worked out. I poured the custard mixture over the caramel in a pan, then baked it in a water bath. That part felt very fancy!
Making Alfajores,First, mix the butter and sugar, then add eggs and vanilla extract, then slowly mix the dry ingredients, so that the dough is ready, refrigerate it for an hour and then bake it.
The Results
The bunuelos were a hit! Everyone loved the cinnamon-sugar goodness. They were definitely best eaten warm, right out of the fryer.
The flan? Well, it looked beautiful. It jiggled perfectly when I took it out of the fridge. And the taste? Amazing! Creamy, rich, and that caramel sauce was just chef’s kiss.
Making Alfajores is also a big success! Coat the cookies with dulce de leche, delicious!

Overall, I’m pretty proud of my Hispanic Christmas dessert adventure. It was fun to try something new, and even though it wasn’t perfect, it was definitely delicious. I’d totally recommend giving these recipes a try – just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve with the frying! And maybe have a fire extinguisher handy, just in case (kidding… mostly!).
