Okay, so the other day I got this wild idea to try out a solar cooker. I’d seen them online and always thought they were pretty cool, but I’d never actually used one. I figured, “Why not give it a shot?” So, I started digging around for some simple recipes to try.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed a solar cooker. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, so I opted for a basic panel cooker. Seems simple enough, right? A few reflective panels that focus the sun’s rays onto a cooking pot.

Next up, the recipe. I wanted something easy, something that wouldn’t require a ton of ingredients or prep work. After looking at that the internet,I decided to start with a simple vegetable stew. It felt like a safe bet, and I had most of the ingredients on hand already.
The Cooking Process
I chopped up some potatoes, carrots, onions, and zucchini. Nothing fancy, just rough chunks. Then, I tossed them in a dark-colored pot with some water, salt, pepper, and a few herbs I had growing in my garden.I put dark-colored pot inside oven bag, I think the oven bag make the hot air inside and make food cooked
Setting up the solar cooker was a bit of a learning curve. I had to find a spot in my backyard that got direct sunlight for most of the day. I found a sunny place, put the Solar Cooker in the right orientation to the sun.
- The cooking time depends on the intensity of the sunlight,I just check it every hour.
- My place is super sunny, it cooked so fast, just a few hours.
- You’d better use a dark-colored pot for better heat absorption.
It actually worked!
I kept checking on the stew every hour, adjusting the cooker to follow the sun. It was slow going, for sure, but after about four hours, the vegetables were tender, and the stew smelled amazing. I couldn’t believe it – I’d actually cooked a meal using just the sun!
The Result
The stew was surprisingly delicious. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, and the flavors had melded together really nicely. It wasn’t the fastest way to cook a meal, but there was something really satisfying about using the sun’s energy to do it.
I’m definitely going to try more solar cooker recipes in the future. It’s a fun, eco-friendly way to cook, and it’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Next time, I might try baking something – maybe some bread or even cookies! If I find more fun about this,I will share it next time!
