Okay, so I saw this cool thing online – a gas pump beverage dispenser, and I just had to try making one myself. I mean, who wouldn’t want a mini gas pump to dispense their drinks? It’s awesome!
First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. This was mostly junk I had lying around, plus a few bits I picked up.
- An old, small box (cardboard, pretty sturdy) – this was going to be the main body.
- A plastic bottle (like, a water bottle).
- Some bendy straws.
- A small, cheap plastic pump – the kind you get for soap dispensers.
- Tape, lots of tape. And some glue.
- Paint (red and black, to make it look like a real gas pump).
- Some random bits of plastic and cardboard for detailing.
Then I started working on the project, I cut a hole in the top of the box, big enough for the plastic bottle to fit snugly upside down. The bottle would be the drink reservoir, you see.
Next, I took the pump and attached the bendy straws to it. This was a bit tricky, making sure it was all airtight. Lots of tape involved here! The straw was going to be the “hose” for the dispenser.
I put the pump through a hole I made on the side of the box, near the top. Then, I connected to the pump mechanism inside the box with straws, making sure the “hose” (the straw) could reach the bottom of the bottle when it was upside down.
After that, it was all about making it look good. I painted the box, mostly red, with some black parts to make it look like a real gas pump. I even added some fake buttons and a little “price” display using cardboard and markers. Just for show, of course!
The detailing was the fun part. I used some bits of plastic to make a fake nozzle for the “hose,” and some more cardboard to create a little “handle” on the side.
Finally, I tested it out. I filled the bottle with some juice, screwed it into the box (upside down, remember), and pumped away! It worked,It actually worked!
My Final Result
It wasn’t perfect, mind you. The pumping was a little slow, and it dripped a bit, but hey, it was a homemade gas pump beverage dispenser! It looked pretty cool on my desk, and it was a great conversation starter. Plus, it was just plain fun to make. Now All my friends want one, too!
