Okay, so I saw this Dolly Parton banana cake mix thing trending, and I had to try it. I mean, Dolly and bananas? It’s a yes from me. I went on a mission to find the goods.
Grocery Store Adventure
First, I hit up my usual grocery store. Nothing. Total bust. Then, I tried another one – still nothing. I was starting to feel defeated. I mean who knew this would be so hard? Finally, I popped into a third store and BAM! There it was, shining on the shelf: Dolly Parton’s Southern Style Banana Cake Mix. I grabbed, like, three boxes. Gotta stock up, you know?

Gathering the Rest of the Ingredients
So, the box tells you what else you need. It’s pretty basic stuff, thankfully:
- Eggs – I always use large, because that’s what I always have.
- Oil – The box called for vegetable oil, but I only had canola. Whatever, it’s close enough I guess.
- Water – Easy, straight from the tap!
Mixing It All Up
I dumped the cake mix into a big bowl, cracked in the eggs, poured in the oil and water. I’m pretty sure the box said to use an electric mixer, but I’m just too lazy to use one, so I just used a whisk. I’m sure it will be fine either way. I stirred it all up until it looked pretty smooth. Maybe a few lumps, but who cares, right?
Baking Time!
I poured the batter into a greased cake pan—I think it was 9×13 inches? I baked it for I think 30 minutes-ish like the box recommended, but honestly, I just kept poking it with a toothpick until it came out clean. My oven’s kinda weird, so I never really trust the times on boxes.
The Finished Product
It actually looked pretty good! Golden brown, smelled amazing. I let it cool, and of course, I had to have a slice. I slapped some cream cheese frosting on top, but it’s probably good plain too. Super moist, definitely banana-y. Is it the best cake I’ve ever had? Maybe not, but it’s Dolly Parton approved, so that’s saying something.
I think I like it. I would make it again, pretty easy to do.
