So, I was out in Richmond the other afternoon. Didn’t really have a specific plan, just felt like walking around a bit, maybe see what was going on. You know how it is sometimes.
Ended up drifting into one of those markets they have there. It was pretty busy, as usual. Lots of folks milling about, vendors shouting about their stuff. I wasn’t really after anything specific, just looking. Passed by stalls piled high with fruits, veggies looking all fresh, and then the usual rows of phone cases and little gadgets nobody really needs.

After wandering for a bit, I started feeling pretty parched. The air was kinda warm, and all that walking made me thirsty. Started scanning around for a place to grab a drink. You see the usual big chain places around, but I was hoping for something different, something actually in the market.
Tucked away near one of the exits, I saw this small stall. It wasn’t fancy, just a counter and a couple of blenders going. They had a handwritten sign with a list of drinks. Mostly fruit stuff, smoothies, teas. Looked okay, better than just grabbing a soda.
I went over and looked at the menu. They had a few options:
- Standard fruit smoothies
- Some kind of iced coffee
- Milk teas with the pearls
- A lychee green tea thing
Decided to go for the lychee green tea. Sounded refreshing enough. The person behind the counter made it right there, scooped some ice, poured the tea, added the lychee bits. Took maybe two minutes.
Paid the few bucks and took a sip. It was… alright. Decently refreshing, not too sweet, which was good. The lychee flavor was there. Nothing mind-blowing, you know? Just a cold drink on a warm day. Did the job. Sometimes that’s all you need, really. It’s not always about finding the ‘best ever’ thing, just something that works at that moment.
Finished it off while standing there, watching the market crowd flow past. It’s funny, the small detours you take. Head out with no plan, end up drinking a lychee tea in the middle of a busy market. It wasn’t a big deal, just a simple part of the afternoon. Like fixing a squeaky door hinge – you just do it, and then you move on. Anyway, that was my little Richmond market beverage moment. Just thought I’d jot it down.
