Alright, so I ended up checking out this place called Wakame Japanese and Thai Cuisine the other day. Been meaning to try somewhere new, and the name caught my eye. Japanese and Thai together? Sounded interesting, maybe a bit confusing, but I figured, why not?
Walked in around dinner time. It wasn’t packed, which was nice. Found a table pretty easily. The place looked clean, decent lighting, nothing too fancy, but comfortable enough. You know, the kind of place you can just relax a bit.

Getting Started
So, the server came over, handed me the menu. Yep, definitely a mix. Had all the usual Japanese stuff – sushi rolls, sashimi, teriyaki. Then, flip the page, and boom, Thai curries, pad thai, tom yum soup. It was quite a selection. Made deciding a bit tough, honestly.
I thought about it for a bit. Was I feeling sushi? Or maybe a spicy curry? In the end, I decided to try a bit from both sides, see how they handle the mix.
- For Japanese: I went with a simple salmon avocado roll. Can’t really go wrong there, usually a good test.
- For Thai: I picked the green curry with chicken. I like a good kick, and green curry often delivers that.
The Meal Itself
The food came out reasonably fast. The sushi roll looked pretty standard. Took a bite. It was okay. Fresh enough, the salmon tasted fine, avocado wasn’t mushy. Nothing amazing, but solid. Did the job, you know?
Then came the green curry. The smell was good, definitely smelled like proper green curry. Looked decent too, plenty of chicken and bamboo shoots in there. I dug in. The spice level was alright, maybe a bit milder than I expected, but it had flavor. The coconut milk base was creamy. The chicken was cooked through. Again, it was decent. Enjoyable enough to eat, but wasn’t thinking “wow, best curry ever” or anything.
Service was fine throughout. They checked on me once, refilled my water. Pretty standard stuff, no complaints there.
Final Thoughts
So, leaving Wakame, I felt… okay. It wasn’t bad by any means. The food was perfectly edible, decent quality. It just didn’t really stand out much for me, either on the Japanese side or the Thai side. It’s like they do both cuisines competently, but maybe not exceptionally?
It’s a safe bet if you’re in the area and hungry, especially if you have a group where some want sushi and others want curry. It solves that problem. Would I rush back? Probably not. But if I was nearby and needed a quick, reliable meal, yeah, I might stop in again. It served its purpose for a midweek dinner.
