So, my kitchen was getting a bit cluttered. You know how it is, stuff piling up on the counters because the old cabinets were just overflowing. I’d been meaning to sort it out for ages. Finally decided enough was enough, time to get some proper modern storage.
Finding the Right One
First thing I did was look around online, just browsing different styles. Lots of sleek, minimalist designs caught my eye. I wasn’t after anything too fancy, just clean lines and good functionality. Needed something sturdy, too – no flimsy stuff. I measured the space I had available next to the fridge, jotted down the dimensions. That helped narrow things down quite a bit.

After looking at maybe a hundred different cabinets online, I popped down to a couple of local home stores. Seeing them in person makes a difference, you can feel the materials, check how the doors swing, that sort of thing. Some looked great online but felt a bit cheap up close. Found one that seemed promising – nice matte finish, decent size, good internal shelving options.
Getting it Home and Set Up
Went ahead and ordered it. Delivery was pretty quick, actually. Came flat-packed, which I expected. The box was heavy, definitely a two-person job to get it inside, or at least a trolley helps. I laid out all the pieces in the living room to check everything was there. Instructions looked okay, mostly pictures.
Putting it Together
I decided to assemble it myself over the weekend. Got my tools ready – screwdriver, hammer, level. Started following the steps. Most of it was straightforward: screwing the side panels to the base, adding the backboard (those thin ones always feel a bit fiddly), then the top. Getting the doors aligned took a bit of patience, lots of tiny adjustments on the hinges until they hung straight and closed properly. That’s usually the trickiest part for me.
- Laid out all parts and checked against the manual.
- Assembled the main frame first: sides, base, top.
- Slid in the back panels. This needed careful tapping.
- Attached the hinges to the doors, then the doors to the cabinet.
- Spent time adjusting the hinges for perfect alignment.
- Finally, installed the shelves and the handles.
Took me a good couple of hours, maybe three, with a coffee break in between. Wasn’t too bad, just needed to take it slow and steady.
The Result
Once it was built and in place, I stood back and had a look. Yeah, pretty happy with it. It fit the space perfectly and looked much better than the old setup. The modern style really freshened up that corner of the kitchen.
Then came the fun part – deciding what goes where. I moved all my taller appliances inside, like the blender and mixer, which were always awkward before. Put baking supplies on another shelf. It freed up so much counter space. Everything feels much tidier now.

Overall, it was a good practical project. The cabinet itself is solid, does the job, and wasn’t a nightmare to put together. Makes the kitchen feel a bit more organized, which is exactly what I was after.
