Alright, so this morning I felt like making that drink I sometimes call the ‘Morning Sun’. It’s nothing fancy, just something bright to get the day going, you know? Felt a bit slow off the mark today.
Gathering the Goods
First up, I went over to the kitchen counter and the fridge. Had to see what I had. Found a couple of decent-looking oranges, one slightly sad-looking lemon, but usable. Also grabbed that knob of ginger I bought last week. And the honey, almost forgot the honey.

- Oranges (2)
- Lemon (1 small)
- Ginger (a small piece)
- Honey (to taste)
- A splash of water (optional)
Getting Hands Dirty
Okay, so I washed the oranges and lemon. Standard stuff. Then I got out my trusty knife and cutting board. Halved the oranges and the lemon. For the ginger, I just peeled a small section, maybe about the size of my thumb? Didn’t need much. I chopped the ginger up really small this time.
Pulled out the old manual citrus juicer, the glass kind. Squeezed the oranges first, then the lemon, right into the juicer base. Got a fair bit of juice out, pulp and all. I don’t mind the pulp.
Putting It Together
Poured the juice into my favourite glass. Then I took the finely chopped ginger and tossed it in. Gave it a good stir with a spoon. I wanted that ginger flavour to really mix in. Then I grabbed the honey bear, squeezed a little swirl in there. Maybe a teaspoon’s worth? Stirred it like crazy to get the honey to dissolve, sometimes it just sinks to the bottom if you don’t.
Taste Test Time…
I added just a tiny splash of cold water from the tap, ’cause sometimes it’s a bit strong straight up. Stirred one last time.
The Drink Itself
And there it was. Looked pretty vibrant, like sunshine in a glass, hence the name I guess. Took a gulp. Yep, that hit the spot. Nice and tangy from the citrus, with that little warm buzz from the ginger coming through at the end, and just enough sweetness. Definitely felt more awake after that. Simple stuff really, but it’s a good way to start. Beats just plain water. Cleaning the juicer is the only downside, but hey, worth it today.
