Alright, so today I wanna talk about this beverage pitcher with a lid that I snagged and kinda tricked out. It wasn’t exactly a smooth ride, but hey, that’s the fun of DIY, right?
It all started ’cause I was tired of my drinks getting all dusty and gross sitting out on the counter. I needed something to keep the lemonade fresh, you know? So, I hit up the local discount store and grabbed this plain-Jane, clear plastic pitcher. It had a lid, which was the main selling point, but it was kinda boring. Just…plastic. Blah.
First thing I did was give it a good scrub with some soapy water. Gotta get rid of any of that factory gunk. Then, the fun began! I had this roll of chalkboard vinyl laying around (don’t ask), and I thought, “Why not make a label area?” So, I measured out a rectangle on the pitcher and carefully stuck the vinyl on. It was a little tricky getting it on without any bubbles, but a credit card helped smooth it out.
Next up, I wanted to make the handle a little more comfy. Holding a cold pitcher of lemonade can be a drag, literally. I found some thick twine in my craft box and started wrapping it around the handle, securing it with hot glue as I went. My fingers got a little burnt, but hey, no pain, no gain, right? The twine gave it a nice, rustic look and actually made it easier to grip.
The lid was still kinda plain, so I decided to jazz it up with some decorative tape. I had this roll of washi tape with lemons on it (perfect!), and I just went to town, layering it around the edge of the lid. It was a simple touch, but it made a huge difference in the overall look.
Now, here’s where I messed up a little. I thought it would be cool to add some little rubber feet to the bottom of the pitcher to prevent it from sliding around. I glued them on, but the glue I used wasn’t strong enough, and they kept falling off. Eventually, I just gave up on that idea. Lesson learned: use stronger glue!
Finally, I grabbed my chalk marker and wrote “Lemonade” on the chalkboard label. Ta-da! A customized beverage pitcher with a lid. It’s not perfect, but it’s way better than the plain plastic thing I started with. And now my lemonade stays fresh and dust-free. Plus, it looks pretty darn cute on the counter.
Lessons learned:
- Chalkboard vinyl is awesome for labeling.
- Twine makes a comfy handle grip.
- Washi tape can add a pop of color.
- Use strong glue for rubber feet!
All in all, it was a fun little project, and now I have a unique pitcher that’s actually useful. Might try something similar with a different pitcher next time. Maybe one for iced tea?
