Okay, so I gotta share what I’ve been up to in my kitchen lately. It started kinda simple. I looked around one morning making coffee and just felt… blah. You know? My appliances were just… there. A mix of old white plastic things, a stainless steel microwave that was always covered in fingerprints, nothing matched. It just didn’t feel nice, and I spend a lot of time in there.
I started seeing all these pictures online, these really calm, pretty kitchens. Everything looked so put together. Not necessarily super expensive fancy kitchens, but just… thoughtful. Especially the small appliances sitting on the counter. They looked like decoration almost, but useful decoration!

So, I decided I wanted a piece of that. Small steps though, right? I wasn’t about to redo the whole kitchen. I figured I’d start with the stuff I use every day and that sits out all the time: the toaster and the kettle.
My old toaster was toast, literally. Barely worked, looked ancient. So that was target number one. I actually spent a good chunk of time just browsing online. It’s wild how many different styles there are now! Retro, super modern, farmhouse… tons of colors too.
I kept getting drawn to this kinda soft, matte cream color. Looked clean and calming. Found this one brand that had a really nice retro-looking toaster in that exact shade. Read a few reviews, seemed decent enough. It wasn’t the cheapest option, gotta admit. These ‘aesthetic’ ones definitely have a bit of a markup.
But I bit the bullet and ordered the cream toaster. When it arrived, I was actually excited, which is kinda funny for a toaster. Unboxed it, plugged it in. Seriously, just swapping out the old dingy one for this nice cream one instantly made that corner of the counter look better. It felt good.
Next up, obviously, was the kettle. My old electric kettle was loud and lime-scaled and just generally grim. Couldn’t have the nice new toaster sitting next to that monstrosity. Luckily, the same brand made a matching cream kettle in the same retro style. Added that to my cart pretty quick.
Once the kettle arrived too, and I had them sitting side-by-side, it just clicked. My little coffee and breakfast station looked intentional now. It sounds silly maybe, but making toast or boiling water feels a little bit nicer now. They work perfectly fine, do exactly what they need to do, but they also just look pleasant.
It’s not a massive change, didn’t cost a fortune compared to big renovations, but it definitely boosted how I feel about my kitchen space. Made me realize you can chip away at making your space feel better bit by bit. Maybe a nice coffee maker is next on the list, gotta find one that fits the vibe!

So yeah, that was my little project. Started with feeling ‘blah’, looked around for inspiration, picked a style I liked, replaced a couple of old things with nicer looking, functional ones. Simple process, but made a surprising difference to my daily routine.
