Okay, so I got this craving for that specific Cookout sauce flavor the other day. You know the one. Couldn’t just run out and grab some, so figured I’d try making it myself. It’s usually simpler than you think.

First thing, I went over to the fridge. Pulled out the basics:

  • Mayonnaise – gotta have that creamy base. Used the regular full-fat stuff.
  • Ketchup – for that tang and sweetness.
  • Yellow mustard – just a bit, for that little kick.

Then, headed to the pantry for the seasonings. This is where you kinda guess a bit, try to remember the taste.

  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Black pepper – freshly ground makes a difference, I think.
  • A little bit of Cajun seasoning – I like that tiny bit of heat and complexity it adds. Some folks might use paprika or something else here.
  • Worcestershire sauce – just a splash, gives it that deeper savory thing.

Mixing it Up

Got a bowl out. Dumped in a good amount of mayo, maybe like half a cup to start. Then added ketchup, probably a couple tablespoons. Less mustard, maybe a teaspoon? You can always add more.

Sprinkled in the powders – maybe half a teaspoon of onion and garlic powder each? A good pinch of pepper. Just a dash of that Cajun stuff, seriously, don’t overdo it at first. Splashed in the Worcestershire.

Stirred it all together. Really mixed it well until the color was even, that kinda pinkish-orange color. Looked about right.

Then the important part: tasting. Grabbed a spoon. Hmm. Okay, pretty close. Maybe needed a little more tang? Added a tiny bit more ketchup. Stirred again. Taste again. Yeah, that’s better. Maybe a touch more black pepper.

Let it sit for a few minutes. Sometimes the flavors need a moment to meld together. Gave it one final stir and taste. Yep, that hit the spot. Not exactly identical maybe, but really close and definitely satisfied the craving.

Used it on some burgers we grilled up. Perfect. It’s easy to whip up when you just need that specific kind of sauce.
