Now, let me tell you a little somethin’ about them dessert plates. You know, them small plates folks use when they’re servin’ up a nice slice of cake or a lil’ pie after dinner. I reckon it ain’t the same as them big ol’ dinner plates, not at all. Dessert plates, they’re smaller, see, and usually flatter, so you don’t end up with your sweet treats all toppled over.

These here plates, they come in all sorts of sizes and shapes. Some of ‘em are round like a regular plate, others might have a fancy little curve or a small well in the middle, just enough to keep your food from rollin’ off. I seen plates like this at them fancy dinner parties folks throwin’ down in town. Them plates look nice, all shiny and pretty with little gold trims around the edges. You don’t need all that frills for a good dessert though, just a plain ol’ white plate will do just fine for me.
Now, I heard some folks talkin’ about these porcelain dessert plates. They’s real fine and all, but I ain’t one to care much about fancy stuff like that. I got a set of good ol’ ceramic ones at home. Them cheap ones you can pick up in any store. I reckon they hold up just fine, long as they don’t get chipped or cracked, right? Most folks use ‘em for cake, or them little tarts, maybe even for some fruit or nuts if it’s a fancy occasion. Heck, I even use ’em for a scoop of ice cream on a hot summer day.
Sizes of Dessert Plates
- Small plates: The most common size is around 7 to 8 inches across. That’s just the right size for a nice little portion of dessert. Not too big, not too small.
- Big plates: Now, some folks might go for a 10-inch plate if they got something big like a whole cake or a large pie to serve. But most times, them big plates ain’t necessary.
- Disposable plates: You might see some of them bright pink or blue disposable plates at parties. They’s handy for birthdays or casual get-togethers. Ain’t nobody worried about dishes when there’s plenty of cake to go around.
And let me tell you, you can get ’em in all sorts of styles. Like, there’s some that are plain white, and others come with fancy flowers painted on ‘em. Them plates sure make the dessert look extra nice when they’re all laid out for company. You could even find ‘em with gold trim, real fancy-like. But like I said, you don’t need none of that for a good slice of pie, just a nice simple plate is fine.
One thing I do notice is that they got ’em in all sorts of materials, too. Some are made of good porcelain, real sturdy. Some are glass, which is nice and all but you gotta be careful not to drop ‘em. Glass can break easy. Then you got your regular ceramic plates, which are good for everyday use. They last a long time if you don’t go dropping ’em all over the floor like my grandkids do.

Now, you can’t forget about how to use these plates. You don’t just throw your food on ’em any old way. If you’re servin’ something real sweet, like a slice of cake or a piece of pie, you want to make sure it looks nice. A little dab of whipped cream or a sprinkle of powdered sugar can make all the difference. And don’t forget the ice cream on the side! You can’t go wrong with that.
Where to Buy Dessert Plates
Well, if you’re lookin’ to buy some of these dessert plates, you can go to any of them big ol’ stores like Target or Walmart. They got all kinds of plates to choose from. You can even order ‘em online, if you don’t mind waitin’ for the delivery. There’s a lotta folks out there sellin’ handmade ceramic plates too. Real nice work, though they might cost a bit more. But if you want somethin’ special for a dinner party or a family get-together, them handmade ones sure do the trick.
Folks also buy these plates to make their meals look good for photos, you know? They take them pictures, post ’em on the internet, and everybody’s talkin’ about how pretty the food looks. It’s like they say, eat with your eyes first, and them dessert plates sure help make the food look tasty. And I can tell you, a nice looking plate makes that dessert taste even sweeter, even if it’s just some store-bought cookies!
So, in the end, I reckon it ain’t too complicated. Dessert plates are just smaller plates, plain and simple. They’re there to hold your sweet treats and make ‘em look pretty. You can get ’em in different sizes, shapes, and materials, and you don’t gotta spend a lot of money to get a good set. Heck, I’ve been usin’ the same ol’ plates for years, and they still work just fine. Just make sure you’ve got enough for everybody when it’s time for dessert, ’cause you don’t want to be runnin’ around tryin’ to find more plates when folks are ready to dig in!
