Alright, let’s gab about these here “dessert tables,” or whatever them city folks call ’em. You know, the place where you pile all the sweet stuff at a party. I ain’t no fancy party planner, mind you, but I’ve seen my fair share of gatherings, and I know what folks like to eat.

First off, you gotta have a good spot for it. Don’t just throw it on the corner of the table with the potato salad. Make it look nice! Maybe put a nice cloth down, somethin’ pretty. I saw one time, this lady, she used an old wooden hutch. Cleaned it up real nice and put all the desserts on it. Looked real fancy, I tell ya. Like somethin’ you’d see in a magazine, only better ’cause you could actually eat it.

Now, about the desserts themselves. You gotta have choices, you hear? Can’t just have one kind of cake and call it a day. People like to pick and choose. Little cakes, big cakes, pies, cookies… you name it. I went to a wedding once, and they had these things called “whoopie pies.” Never heard of ’em before, but they were good! Little round cakes with cream in the middle. Perfect for grabbin’ and eatin’. That’s another thing, make sure some of them desserts are easy to eat while you’re standin’ around talkin’. Not everyone wants to sit down with a fork and knife.

Speaking of forks and knives, though, some desserts need ’em. If you got a real fancy cake, or a pie, you gotta have the right tools. My grandma always told me, “you use a spoon in your right hand and a fork in your left”. I don’t know why it gotta be that way. But she always said that’s the proper way to do it. And you put ’em on the side of the plate, see? Fork on the left, spoon on the right. Don’t go mixin’ ‘em up now.

  • Cakes: Gotta have a few! Chocolate, vanilla, maybe somethin’ fruity. And don’t forget the frosting! Thick and creamy, that’s the way I like it.
  • Pies: Apple, cherry, pecan… whatever’s in season. And make sure the crust is nice and flaky. Nobody wants a soggy bottom pie, that’s for sure.
  • Cookies: Chocolate chip, peanut butter, sugar cookies… the more the merrier! And make ’em small enough so folks can eat a few without feelin’ too guilty.
  • Little bitty desserts: You know, those fancy little things that look too pretty to eat? Well, folks like those too! Put ’em on a pretty platter and watch ’em disappear.

Presentation is important too, you know. Don’t just throw everything on a plate and call it a day. Arrange the desserts nicely. Maybe put some flowers or somethin’ around ’em. Make it look like you put some effort into it. I seen some folks put little signs next to each dessert, tellin’ you what it is. That’s a good idea, especially if you got some fancy stuff that people ain’t never seen before.

And last but not least, make sure there’s enough for everyone! Nothin’ worse than goin’ to a party and findin’ out all the good desserts are gone. Better to have too much than not enough, that’s what I always say. And if you do have leftovers, well, that’s just a bonus! You can enjoy them sweet treats for days to come. Just don’t let them go bad now.

So there you have it, my two cents on dessert tables. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, but I know what I like. And I reckon most folks ain’t too different from me when it comes to sweets. Just make it look nice, give folks plenty of choices, and make sure there’s enough to go around. That’s the secret to a good dessert table, y’all. You don’t need no fancy city folks telling you otherwise.

One more thing, if you’re lookin’ for ideas, you can always look on that “Pint-er-est” thing. My niece showed me. Lots of pretty pictures of desserts on there. Just don’t get too carried away, you know? Sometimes simple is best. Just good, homemade desserts, that’s all you really need.
