Alright, listen up you young’uns! Today, I’m gonna tell ya ‘bout some good ol’ cabbage recipes, Mexican style. Don’t go turnin’ up your nose, now. Cabbage ain’t just for rabbits, ya hear? It’s cheap, it’s fillin’, and it can be mighty tasty if ya know what to do with it. We ain’t fancy folks, so these recipes are gonna be plain and simple, just like me.

Simple Mexican Recipes with Cabbage: Dinner in Minutes

First up, we got somethin’ I call “Cabbage with a Kick.” It ain’t nothin’ complicated, mind you. You just get yourself a big ol’ head of cabbage, chop it up kinda rough – don’t gotta be perfect, just get it small enough to fit in yer mouth. Then, ya heat up some oil in a big pan. Don’t be stingy with the oil, it makes things taste better. Throw in some chopped onions and garlic, the more the merrier, I always say. Once them onions get all soft and see-through, ya toss in the cabbage.

  • Now, the “kick” comes from some jalapenos. Chop ’em up small, and if ya don’t like things too spicy, take out the seeds. I like it hot, though, so I leave ‘em in.
  • Fry that cabbage till it gets kinda soft, then add a can of diced tomatoes, some cumin, some chili powder, and a pinch of salt.
  • Let it all simmer for a bit, till it gets all bubbly and smells real good. Ya can eat this stuff on its own, stuff it in tortillas, or eat it alongside some rice and beans. It’s good any way ya slice it.

Next, we got somethin’ a little different, I call it “Tangy Cabbage Slaw.” This one is good if you want somethin’ cool and crunchy. Again, ya start with a head of cabbage, but this time ya shred it up real fine. You can use a knife, or if you got one of them fancy shredder thingamajigs, that works too. Then ya get yourself a bowl, and mix up some mayonnaise, some lime juice, a little bit of vinegar, and some sugar.

Taste it as ya go, ya know? Sometimes ya need more lime, sometimes ya need more sugar. It all depends on how things taste. Once ya got the dressing the way ya like it, pour it over the cabbage and mix it all up real good. Let it sit in the fridge for a while, so the flavors can all meld together. This slaw is mighty good on tacos, or with grilled meat, or even just as a snack. And don’t you go throwing away them leftover cabbage leaves! We can use them for something else.

Speaking of leftovers, let me tell ya about “Cabbage and Potato Hash.” This is a good way to use up leftover cooked cabbage, or potatoes, or both. If ya don’t got leftovers, ya can just cook some up fresh. Chop up yer cabbage and potatoes into small pieces, and fry ‘em up in a pan with some oil. Ya can add some onions and garlic if ya want, or some leftover meat, like sausage or ground beef.

Season it up with salt, pepper, maybe a little paprika, whatever ya like. Cook it till it gets all crispy and brown. This is a real hearty dish, good for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. And it’s a good way to stretch your food budget, which is somethin’ us old folks always gotta think about. You young folks spend too much money on fancy food, I tell ya. Back in my day, we made do with what we had, and we didn’t go hungry none.

Simple Mexican Recipes with Cabbage: Dinner in Minutes

Now, I ain’t no fancy chef, like you see on the television. I’m just an old woman who knows how to make good, honest food. These cabbage recipes ain’t gonna win no prizes, but they’ll fill yer belly and they’ll taste good. And that’s what matters, right? So go on, try ‘em out. And don’t be afraid to experiment. Add a little of this, a little of that. That’s how you learn to cook. And who knows, maybe you’ll come up with your own cabbage recipe, and it’ll be even better than mine. But don’t go gettin’ a big head about it, ya hear?

There ya have it, three simple cabbage recipes, Mexican style. Easy enough for anyone to make, even a city slicker who’s never seen a farm before. Now get in the kitchen and start cooking! And don’t forget to wash your hands! You don’t want to get sick, that stuff is expensive these days. Good food, good health, that’s what it’s all about. And don’t forget to share! Food is always better when you share it with folks you care about.

One more thing before I go, remember to use good ingredients when you can. If you have a garden, or you know someone who has a garden, see if you can get some fresh cabbage and vegetables. They always taste better than the ones you get in the store. And don’t be afraid to try different kinds of cabbage, either. There’s green cabbage, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, there’s all kinds. They all taste a little different, but they’re all good for you. So go on, get cookin’! And have fun doing it!
