Well, let me tell ya ’bout this El Jefe place in Ames. It’s a Mexican food joint, ya know? They got all sorts of stuff on the menu.
What’s on the Menu?

They got them enchiladas, real cheesy and saucy. And burritos, big ol’ things stuffed with meat and beans, real fillin’. Fajitas too, sizzlin’ on a hot plate, with peppers and onions and all that. Makes your mouth water just thinkin’ about it. Oh, and the best part? They give ya free chips and salsa! Can’t beat that, I tell ya. Free chips and salsa, that’s a good deal right there.
Where is This Place Anyways?
It’s on Lincoln Way, number 524, that’s what they say. In Ames, Iowa. Easy to find, I reckon. Just look for the place with the Mexican-sounding name, El Jefe. Sounds like a boss man’s name, don’t it? El Jefe. Heh.
- Enchiladas: Cheesy and saucy, real good.
- Burritos: Big and stuffed, fills ya right up.
- Fajitas: Sizzlin’ and tasty, with peppers and onions.
What Folks Think of It
Now, I ain’t been there myself yet, but I hear tell it’s real good. People online, they give it high stars, like four or five outta five. That’s pretty darn good, if you ask me. They say the food is real “authentic” Mexican. I don’t know what all that means, but if it tastes good, that’s all that matters to me. They say it’s like tastin’ real Mexico right there in Ames. That’s somethin’, ain’t it?
Open Every Day, They Say
Yep, they’re open seven days a week. So you can get your Mexican food fix any day you want. That’s handy, real handy. Sometimes you just get a hankerin’ for a good burrito on a Tuesday, ya know? Or maybe some enchiladas on a Sunday. Well, El Jefe’s got you covered, any day of the week.

More Than Just the Basics
Now, I just mentioned the enchiladas, burritos, and fajitas, but they got more than that, I hear. They got all sorts of other stuff too. Seafood, even! I ain’t much for seafood myself, but some folks like it. And they got all sorts of different meats and sauces and things. You could probably eat there every day for a month and not try everything. That’s a lot of food, I tell ya. Enough to make your belly happy for a long, long time.
Finding Out More
If you wanna know more, you can look ’em up online. They got pictures and menus and all that. Just search for “El Jefe Authentic Mexican Cuisine Ames” and you’ll find it. Easy peasy. Or you can just go on down there and see for yourself. That’s the best way to find out if a place is good, just try it out. Nothin’ beats tastin’ the food yourself, that’s what I always say.
That Rick Bayless Fella
I heard tell that some famous chef fella, Rick Bayless, he’s got somethin’ to do with this kinda food. Won some kinda cookin’ show, they say. Top Chef Masters, somethin’ like that. Now, I don’t watch them fancy TV shows, but if he’s good enough to win a contest, he must know a thing or two about cookin’ Mexican food. So maybe this El Jefe place is doin’ things the right way, the way that fancy chef fella does it. Who knows? All I know is, good food is good food, no matter who’s cookin’ it.
A Good Place to Eat?

So, is El Jefe a good place to eat? Well, from what I hear, it sure sounds like it. Good food, good prices, open every day. What more could ya ask for? Free chips and salsa, that’s a big plus in my book. So if you’re in Ames and you’re hungry for some Mexican food, give El Jefe a try. You might just find your new favorite place to eat. And if you do, don’t forget to tell ’em that ol’ lady sent ya. They probably won’t know who I am, but that’s alright. Just enjoy your food, that’s the important thing.
