Alright, alright, let’s talk about them desserts made from flour, you know, the kind I used to whip up back in the day. Not fancy stuff, mind you, just good ol’ fashioned treats that fill your belly and make you feel good.
First off, cookies. Everybody loves cookies, right? I ain’t talkin’ about them store-bought things, all hard and taste like cardboard. I’m talkin’ about real cookies, made with butter, real butter, the kind that melts in your mouth and leaves your fingers greasy.

- Chocolate chip cookies. Now there’s a classic. Plenty of butter, that’s the secret. And don’t skimp on the chocolate chips, neither. Gotta have plenty of them melty little drops of goodness in every bite.
- Peanut butter cookies. If you like peanut butter, these are the ticket. Just some flour, sugar, butter, and peanut butter, smushed together and baked ’til they’re golden brown. Sometimes I’d add a little bit of criss-cross with a fork on top, just to make ’em look fancy.
- Sugar cookies. These are plain and simple, but good. Especially around the holidays. You can cut ’em into all sorts of shapes – stars, trees, little men. And then you can frost ‘em and sprinkle ‘em with all sorts of sugary stuff. The young’uns always loved them.
- And then there’s them shortbread cookies. Now them are somethin’ special. Crumbly and buttery, they just melt right in your mouth. Not too sweet, just right. Perfect with a cup of tea, if you’re fancy like that. I don’t make ‘em often, though, takes a lot of butter, you know.
Then there’s cakes. Now, cakes take a bit more work than cookies, but they’re worth it. Specially when you got folks comin’ over or a birthday to celebrate.
I remember makin’ a simple yellow cake once, just flour, sugar, eggs, and butter, with a little bit of vanilla for flavor. It wasn’t nothin’ fancy, but it was moist and tender, and everybody loved it. Sometimes I’d make a chocolate frosting to go with it, sometimes just a simple glaze. Whatever I had on hand, really. I ain’t one for wastin’ nothin’.
And let’s not forget about pies! Oh, them pies! Apple pie, cherry pie, peach pie, pumpkin pie… the list goes on and on. The secret to a good pie is the crust, you know. Gotta be flaky and tender, not tough and chewy. And plenty of filling, don’t be stingy with the fruit.
Apple pie was always a favorite. I’d use them apples from the tree in the backyard, tart and juicy. And I’d make my own crust from scratch, with lard, it makes it flakier, you know. Nothin’ like the smell of an apple pie bakin’ in the oven on a cold day. Warms the whole house, it does.
And then there’s them other desserts too. Like them biscuits. You know, them fluffy things you eat with butter and jam, or maybe some sausage gravy if you’re feelin’ fancy. Just flour, baking powder, a pinch of salt, some butter or lard, and a little bit of milk. That’s all you need.
Or maybe some pancakes, for a lazy Sunday morning. Flour, eggs, milk, a little bit of sugar and baking powder. Mix it all up, pour it on a hot griddle, and flip ’em when they’re bubbly. Serve ’em with syrup, butter, maybe some fruit if you got it. Fills you up good, it does.
So yeah, there’s lots of desserts you can make from flour. Cookies, cakes, pies, biscuits, pancakes… I could go on and on. It ain’t rocket science, you know. Just good, honest ingredients, and a little bit of love. That’s all you need to make somethin’ delicious. And don’t forget the butter! Everything’s better with butter.

Baking from scratch, that’s the way to do it. You know what’s goin’ in your food, no funny chemicals or preservatives. Just good ol’ flour, sugar, butter, and eggs. And whatever else you feel like throwin’ in. That’s the beauty of it, you can make it your own. You don’t have to measure it so precisely. A little of this, a little of that. That’s the way I learned and it works just fine.
And don’t be afraid to experiment. Try different things. Add some nuts, some fruit, some spices. You never know what you might come up with. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the process. And then enjoy the eatin’!
