Well, now, if you’re askin’ me what them fancy desserts people been gobblin’ up in 2020, I reckon I can tell ya. Folks was stuck in their homes for a long while, ya see, so they got to bakin’ and makin’ all sorts of sweets. Some of it’s newfangled stuff, and some of it’s just good ol’ comfort food, the kind your grandma used to make.
One thing them youngsters got real big on was somethin’ called “nice cream.” Now, I ain’t sure why they call it “nice,” ‘cause to me, ice cream’s just ice cream, but this here “nice” cream is made with frozen bananas. Yep, you heard that right. Bananas! They blend ‘em up all smooth and creamy, and then they add in all sorts of things. Chocolate chips, they like that a whole bunch. And mint, too. Mint choc-chip “nice” cream, that was a big one. I tried it once, and it wasn’t half bad, though I still prefer the real stuff, ya know, with the cream and sugar.

- “Nice” Cream: Made with frozen bananas, it’s a healthier twist on ice cream. Folks like to add chocolate chips or mint.
- Old-Fashioned Cakes: Simple cakes like pound cake and spice cake became popular. Comfort food, ya know?
- Cookies, Cookies, Cookies: Chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal – all kinds of cookies were big in 2020. Easy to make and everyone loves ‘em.
Then there’s them cakes. Everyone went crazy for cakes, but not them fancy store-bought ones. Nope, they wanted the kind their grannies used to make. Pound cake, that was a big one. Just flour, butter, sugar, and eggs, nothin’ fancy. And spice cake too, with all them warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. It makes the whole house smell good, and that’s important when you’re stuck inside all day, lemme tell ya.
And cookies! Oh, them cookies were everywhere. Chocolate chip, of course, ‘cause everyone loves a good chocolate chip cookie. But peanut butter cookies too, and oatmeal cookies, and all sorts of other kinds. I reckon cookies are easy to make, and they make you feel good, especially with a glass of milk. Kids love ‘em, and grown-ups too, so it’s a win-win, I say.
People got real creative, though. They started makin’ sourdough bread, I don’t know why, but they did. And they used that sourdough starter in everything. Sourdough pancakes, sourdough waffles, even sourdough desserts! I ain’t never tried it myself, seems like a lot of fuss to me, but them youngsters, they seem to like it.
Another thing that got real popular was them mug cakes. You just mix up the batter in a mug and stick it in the microwave for a minute or two, and you got yourself a little cake. Perfect for when you want somethin’ sweet but don’t wanna make a whole big cake. I tried makin’ one myself, it was pretty good. Chocolate, of course. I’m not one for all them fancy flavors.
And then there was all that fuss about bakin’ bread. Everyone was bakin’ bread, I don’t know why. Seemed like every time I went on that there internet, all I saw was pictures of bread. Banana bread, sourdough bread, all kinds of bread. I guess it kept folks busy, and it made the house smell good, so there’s that.
So, there you have it, them desserts that folks went crazy for in 2020. Some new, some old, but all of ‘em sweet and comforting. I reckon people just needed a little somethin’ sweet to get through the year, and who can blame ‘em? I know I like a little somethin’ sweet myself, every now and again.
Now, I don’t know about all them “21 must-try dessert recipes for every occasion” they talk about on them fancy websites. Seems like a lot of work to me. But I do know what tastes good, and I know what folks like. And if you stick to the basics, you can’t go wrong. A good ol’ chocolate chip cookie, a slice of pound cake, or a scoop of ice cream, that’s all you really need, in my opinion.

And don’t forget, them youngsters, they’re always makin’ videos and puttin’ ‘em on the internet. Always sayin’, “Try this all desserts out. Subscribe to my channel and click the bell icon to get notifications.” I don’t get it, but they seem to like it, so good for them, I say.
