Alright, let’s talk about cookin’ a goose in that there crock pot. You know, the one that sits on the counter and makes the whole house smell good? Yeah, that’s the one. Now, I ain’t no fancy chef, but I know how to make a good meal, and this goose recipe, well, it’s somethin’ special. It’s real easy too, even for someone like me who ain’t got all them fancy kitchen tools.

First off, you gotta get yourself a goose. Now, where you get it is your business, but make sure it’s a good one. Not too skinny, not too fat, just right. You know, like how you pick a good watermelon. Give it a thump, see if it sounds right. Okay, maybe you don’t thump a goose, but you get the idea.

Once you got your goose, you gotta clean it up. Get all them feathers off and whatnot. I ain’t gonna tell you how to do that, you figure it out. Just make sure it’s clean, that’s all. Wash it good, inside and out. You don’t want no feathers in your stew, trust me on that.

Now, for the fixin’s. You need some onions, I always use a big yellow one, chop it up good, don’t matter how, just get it small enough to cook easy. Then some garlic, a couple cloves, maybe more if you like it strong. Mince that up too. Oh, and an apple! Yeah, an apple. Chop it up, same as the onion. It gives it a little sweetness, you know? And a carrot, just one, chopped up too. This ain’t rocket science, just chop up some vegetables, okay?

  • Onion, chopped
  • Garlic, minced
  • Apple, chopped
  • Carrot, chopped

Then, get your goose and put it in that there crock pot. Big ol’ goose, little ol’ crock pot, it all works out. Dump all them chopped up veggies on top. Seasoning, you ask? Well, salt and pepper, of course. And whatever else you like. I like to throw in some of them herbs, you know, the ones that smell good. Thyme, rosemary, whatever I got growin’ in the garden. Don’t be shy, add a good amount. It will all cook down and make that meat so flavorful.

Now, here’s the important part. You gotta add some liquid. Water works just fine, but if you got some chicken broth, that’s even better. Or goose broth, if you’re fancy like that. Pour it in, enough to cover the goose mostly. You don’t want it swimming, but you don’t want it dry either. Just enough, you understand?

Put the lid on that crock pot, turn it on low, and let it cook. How long? Well, that depends. A big ol’ goose, it might take all day. A little one, maybe just a few hours. You gotta check it, you know? Poke it with a fork, see if it’s tender. When it falls off the bone, that’s when it’s ready. Don’t rush it, low and slow, that’s the secret to a good crock pot goose.

Now, some folks, they like to brown the goose before they put it in the crock pot. Says it gives it more flavor. Me, I don’t bother. Too much work. But if you wanna do it, go ahead. Just sear it in a pan with a little oil, get it all nice and brown, then put it in the crock pot. It’s up to you, really. This ain’t no strict recipe, it’s just how I do it. You can add things and take things out as you like. Maybe you want some potatoes in there, go ahead and throw them in. Maybe you don’t like apples, leave them out. It’s your goose, you cook it how you want.

And when it’s done, oh boy, it’s good. The meat is so tender, it just falls apart. And that broth, it’s so flavorful, you could just drink it straight. I like to serve it with some mashed potatoes, or some rice, or maybe some cornbread. Somethin’ to soak up all that good juice. It’s a real stick-to-your-ribs kinda meal, perfect for a cold day. Or any day, really. Goose in a crock pot, can’t go wrong with that.

Crock Pot Goose Recipes: Flavorful and Effortless Cooking

So there you have it. My simple, no-fuss goose recipe for the crock pot. It ain’t pretty, but it’s good. And that’s all that matters, right? Now go on and cook yourself a goose. You won’t regret it.
