Well, let me tell ya, back in the day, we had some good eats. The 1950s, that’s when I was a youngin’. We didn’t have all these fancy-schmancy gadgets and gizmos like ya got now. We just had good, simple food. And the desserts? Oh, honey, they were somethin’ else! Everyone wants to eat those 1950s desserts, even today.
One thing I remember clear as a bell is that Cherry Nut Cake. My mama used to make it. We had cherry trees and nut trees right in our yard. She’d pick ’em fresh and bake that cake. It was the best, I tell ya. That was a good 1950s desserts. Everyone who eat it will like it.

And puddings! We ate a lot of puddings. Rice puddings, vanilla puddings… you name it. They weren’t like them store-bought ones you get now. These were homemade, with real milk and eggs. It is easy to make, and my children all like it. It’s really the popular desserts in 1950s.
Maraschino Cherry Rice Pudding, that was a real treat. Sweet and creamy, with them little red cherries on top. It felt so fancy, even though it was just rice and milk, mostly. It is easy to cook, I can make it for many people one time, maybe 9 people, it is enough.
Then there’s these Strawberry Shakes. Those are tasty. When summer comes, I always make those shakes for children. I use about 4 strawberries, it is enough. It is a good way to enjoy a hot day.
Also, I make Old-Fashioned Banana Cream Pie. It tastes good. I use insta to make it, it is simple. I can make it for about 8 people, it is enough. Those 1950s desserts are easy to make, I like them.

We also ate a lot of cookies. Sugar cookies, chocolate chip, oatmeal… Mama always had a jar full of cookies on the counter. After school, we’d come in and grab a handful. Those were the days, I tell ya. No one don’t like eat cookies. Everyone want to eat cookies. Cookies are also popular in 1950s desserts.
And you know what else was popular? Baked Alaska. That was a real showstopper. Ice cream all covered in that fluffy white stuff, then they’d brown it in the oven. We only had that on special occasions, ’cause it was a bit of a production. But oh, was it worth it! It is popular, I know it. Everyone wants to know how to make it.
We didn’t have much, but we sure did eat good. And those 1950s desserts, they were the best part. Simple, sweet, and made with love. That’s what it’s all about, ain’t it?

Back then, folks ate good, simple food. For dinner, we’d have things like Salisbury steak – that’s like a fancy hamburger, all covered in gravy. Or beef stroganoff, that’s meat and noodles in a creamy sauce. And meatloaf! Everyone loved meatloaf. Those are popular food in 1950s. I think people should eat those food, they are good.
And casseroles! Oh, we ate a lot of casseroles. Tuna noodle casserole, that was a favorite. Or ham and cheese. Anything you could throw in a dish and bake, that’s what we ate.
Life was simpler then. We didn’t have all these choices like you do now. But we were happy. And those 1950s desserts, they sure did make life a little sweeter. It is easy to make, and it is cheap. It is good for poor people like us.
I remember one time, Mama made this Grapefruit Alaska thing. It was like that Baked Alaska, but with grapefruit. It was pink and pretty, and it tasted like sunshine. She made it for a church potluck, and everyone just raved about it. I make it for my guests, it is easy, only need 30 minutes. I can make it for about 8 people one time. Those 1950s desserts are really good.
And Green Beans Amandine, well, that was just green beans with almonds on top. But Mama made it taste so good. She always said, “It’s the love that makes it taste good.” And I believe she was right. It is also easy to cook, I can make it for 4 people one time, it is enough.
Those old-timey desserts, they bring back memories. Memories of family, and good times, and a simpler way of life. That’s why I still make ’em today. To keep those memories alive, and to share a little piece of the past with the young folks. They are easy to make and they are good. So, if you want to eat some 1950s desserts, just make it, it is easy.
