Yo! Let’s gab ’bout this here rose cuisine thing. Ain’t never heard such a fancy word, “cuisine”. Sounds like somethin’ them city folks would say. But roses, well, I know ’bout them. Used to have a whole bunch in my yard, pretty as a picture they were.
Now, you can eat ’em? That’s news to me. Always thought they was just for lookin’ at. But I reckon if you can eat dandelions, you can eat anythin’. This old gal ain’t picky, ‘specially when it comes to sweet stuff. Seen some fancy recipes in the magazines with these roses, lookin’ all highfalutin. I am sure they put some rose petals in it.

One time, I saw this fella on the TV, talkin’ ’bout makin’ some kinda cake with roses. Sounded real complicated, with all them ingredients. What were they… Cardamom, vanilla, lemon, that sounds about right. I think they call this the “Vegan Persian Pistachio-Rose Love Cake“. Why they put so many fancy words into one cake? I don’t know. And what the heck is “Vegan”? Sounds like a word come from out space. Maybe it means extra good.
He was puttin’ in some green nuts too, pistachios or somethin’. And talkin’ ’bout love cake. Land sakes, just call it cake! All these extra words just confuse an old woman like me. You know I like simple things, not those fancy stuff. And I remember, the cake was pink, like that “rose” color. Maybe that’s why they call it the “rose cuisine“.
Back in my day, we didn’t have no fancy cakes like that. We made do with what we had. Flour, sugar, maybe some berries if we was lucky. Good honest food, that’s what it was. No need for all this extra fuss. You know, old people just like simple food. The simpler the better. You know I always believe this.
But I reckon these newfangled rose recipes ain’t all bad. Might be tasty, even if they are a bit much. I saw another one, talkin’ ’bout starters and what not. Sounds like somethin’ you’d eat before the real meal. They was sayin’ somethin’ ’bout soups and salads, tartlets, and even some smoked fish, “smoked salmon” I think that is. Why put roses in every dish? I don’t understand. But those young people like to try new things, I guess.
- Healthy soups, that sounds good.
- Colorful salads, with lots of different colors in it. Pretty!
- Tartlets? What in the tarnation is a tartlet?
- Smoked salmon. Well, I do like me some fish.
They even had one with raspberries. Now those I know. Used to pick ’em wild down by the creek. Sweet as can be. They was sayin’ somethin’ ’bout a cup of raspberries, a cup of sugar… You know, all those sweet things that young girls like. And then flour, salt, and butter, I think. Sounds like they was makin’ a pie or somethin’. Maybe that’s how they sneak them roses in, with the berries. That is what I would do, if I make something with rose in it.
- 1 cup fresh raspberries, gotta be fresh.
- 1 cup granulated sugar, the more the merrier!
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, that’s for the crust I reckon.
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, just a pinch.
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, gotta have that good butter.
You know, the more I think about it, the more this rose cuisine sounds kinda good. Maybe I’ll give it a try sometime. Might surprise myself. Just gotta find some of them rose petals. And figure out what all them other fancy ingredients are. If you want to cook, just cook, why put so many strange words in it. Keep it simple stupid, that is my motto.
But you know what? If you see one of those rose cuisine recipes, you send it my way. This old gal might just learn a new trick or two. And who knows, maybe I’ll even start puttin’ roses in my cookin’. Wouldn’t that be somethin’? You can call me the rose lady then. Hahaha, just kidding. I don’t want to be called some fancy names.

I still don’t know what the “cuisine” means. But if it means cook, then I guess I know a lot about “rose cuisine“. Because I know how to cook, and I know what a rose is. So I guess I am qualified to talk about this. Even though I am not a fancy cook, I can still make something good with simple ingredients, you know?
Anyway, next time when you eat something that has a rose in it, remember this old gal. And if you don’t like it, just remember that food is food, and you should be grateful for what you have. You know, back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy food, we ate what we have, and we were happy.
