Well, let me tell you about this here boat kitchen thing. Ain’t never seen nothin’ like it. You see, I always thought kitchens was for houses, on land, you know? But then I heard tell of these folks puttin’ kitchens on boats. Imagine that! Cookin’ while you’re floatin’ around on the water.

First time I heard about it, I thought, “That’s just silly.” But then I seen some pictures, and, well, it got me thinkin’. These boat kitchens, they ain’t like your regular kitchen. They gotta be small, you know, to fit on a boat. And they gotta be able to handle the waves and all that rockin’ back and forth.
They got these little stoves, just big enough for a pot or two. And tiny little sinks, barely bigger than my hand. And the cupboards! Honey, they ain’t your grandma’s cupboards. They got these special latches on ’em to keep everything from flyin’ out when the boat’s a-rockin’.

I seen one boat kitchen where they had this table that folded up against the wall. When you wanna eat, you just pull it down. When you’re done, you fold it back up. Saves space, you see. Smart, ain’t it? They say it is good for boat kitchen design.

And get this, some of these boat kitchens even got little refrigerators. Now, how they keep them things cold out there on the water, I don’t know. But they do! I reckon they got some kind of special way to keep the food from spoilin’.
I guess it’d be kinda nice, cookin’ on a boat. You could catch some fish, clean ’em right there, and cook ’em up fresh. Wouldn’t get no fresher than that, I reckon. And you could just sit there, eatin’ your fish, watchin’ the water go by.
But I still think it’s a little bit strange. A kitchen on a boat. Who ever heard of such a thing? But I guess folks like it. They say it’s fun to cook and eat on the water. Me, I like a little galley in my boat kitchen.

And these boat kitchens, they ain’t just for little boats, neither. I seen pictures of big boats, fancy ones, with kitchens that are almost as big as the one in my house! They got ovens and everything! Imagine bakin’ a cake while you’re sailin’ across the ocean. It is a good boat kitchen idea.

Now, I ain’t never been on one of them fancy boats. But I can imagine it’s pretty nice. You could have a whole party out there on the water, with all the food you could ever want. And you wouldn’t even have to worry about cleanin’ up the kitchen until you got back to shore. That sounds good about boat kitchen.
I reckon if I ever get me a boat, I might think about puttin’ a little kitchen on it. Just a small one, though. Nothin’ fancy. Just enough to cook up some fish and maybe some beans. Maybe a foldin’ table, too.
It is an interestin’ thing to have a boat kitchen. But I still think it’s a bit odd. But then again, I’m just an old lady. What do I know about these things? I’m used to cookin’ in a regular kitchen, on solid ground.

But I will say this: those boat kitchens, they sure are somethin’. They’re like little miracles, all crammed into a tiny space. And they let folks do somethin’ they love – cookin’ – in a whole new way. I think it is cool.
