Hey everyone, today I tried something new – making whiskey desserts. I’ve always loved baking, and I enjoy a good glass of whiskey, so I thought, why not put these two together?
I started my day by looking up some ideas online. There were tons of them! I saw everything from frozen stuff like whiskey ice cream to fancy things like a cake with a shot of brandy and caramel. Even saw some things about a peach cobbler with a brown sugar-bourbon sauce. Seemed a bit much for a beginner like me though.

Then I remembered I love chocolate, especially dark chocolate. I read somewhere that dark chocolate goes great with almost any whiskey. And there was this simple idea of a whiskey glaze, kinda like what you do with rum cakes. Perfect! Seemed easy enough.
So, I decided to bake a simple chocolate cake first. Nothing fancy, just a regular one from a box mix, because, let’s be honest, life’s busy. While the cake was baking, I started working on the whiskey glaze. I didn’t really have a recipe for that, so I just mixed some powdered sugar, a bit of milk, and a good splash of whiskey. I used that famous one, you know the one everyone talks about. I tasted it to make sure the whiskey flavor was just right – not too strong, not too weak.
Once the cake was out of the oven and cooled down, I poured my homemade whiskey glaze all over it. I made sure it covered the cake evenly, letting it drip down the sides a bit for that rustic look. It smelled amazing, by the way, the mix of chocolate and whiskey was just heavenly.
I also thought about adding some extras. I had some dark chocolate chips and a bit of sea salt. I sprinkled those on top while the glaze was still wet. The chocolate chips added an extra layer of, well, chocolate, and the sea salt, it just made all the flavors pop. It’s like, you wouldn’t think salt goes on a cake, but trust me, it’s a game changer.
After letting it all set for a bit, I finally tried it. Oh boy, it was good! The cake was moist, the glaze was sweet with a nice kick from the whiskey, and those chocolate chips and sea salt on top? Chef’s kiss! It was a simple dessert, but it felt kinda special, you know? Like, I made something a bit grown-up and fancy, but it wasn’t even hard.
I even made a little extra glaze and used it as a dip for some fruit I had. Strawberries and bananas, mostly. Dipping fruit in a whiskey glaze? Surprisingly good. Who knew?
My Notes
- Keep it simple – You don’t need to be a pro baker. Start with something easy.
- Taste as you go – Especially when making the glaze. You want that whiskey flavor just right.
- Add some extras – Chocolate chips, a bit of salt, maybe some nuts. Make it your own.
- Have fun with it – At the end of the day, cooking’s all about having a good time. So just do whatever and enjoy the process.
So yeah, that was my day making whiskey desserts. It was fun, a bit messy, but totally worth it. I might try making whiskey ice cream next time, or maybe one of those fancy tarts. We’ll see. If you’re into baking and like whiskey, give it a shot. It’s a fun little project, and you get to eat something delicious at the end. What’s not to love?
