Okay, so, Thanksgiving is coming up, and you know what that means – time to think about desserts! This year, I wanted to do something special for the kids, something fun and festive, but also, you know, not a total nightmare to make.

I started by brainstorming some ideas. I thought, what’s Thanksgiving without turkeys and pilgrims, right? So, I decided to focus on those themes. First, I went online and looked for some inspiration. I saw a bunch of complicated recipes, but I wanted easy, so I kept digging.

Then, I stumbled upon this adorable turkey cake idea. It’s basically a simple cake that you decorate to look like a turkey. You just bake a regular cake, any flavor you like, and then use frosting, candies, and maybe some pretzels to create the feathers, eyes, and beak. Easy peasy, and it looked super cute in the pictures.

My Turkey Cake Adventure

  • I baked a chocolate cake because, well, who doesn’t love chocolate?
  • While it was cooling, I gathered all the decorating supplies. I had some leftover candy corn from Halloween, which was perfect for the feathers.
  • I whipped up some chocolate frosting and spread it all over the cake.
  • Then came the fun part – decorating! I used the candy corn for the feathers, M&Ms for the eyes, and a little red frosting tube for the wattle.

It wasn’t perfect, but my kids loved it! They thought it was the coolest thing ever, and they even helped me put the candy corn on.

Next up, I wanted something even simpler, so I remembered seeing these pilgrim hat cookies somewhere. They’re just cookies shaped like hats, and you can decorate them with different colored frosting. I used store-bought cookie dough to make things even easier. I just sliced the dough into rounds and then pinched one side to make it look like a hat.

Pilgrim Hats

  • I baked them according to the package directions.
  • While they were baking, I mixed up some simple white frosting and added some yellow food coloring.
  • Once the cookies were cool, I dipped the “brim” of the hat in the yellow frosting.

Again, super easy and the kids loved them. They were gone in minutes!

Finally, I wanted a festive drink, and since my kids are obsessed with Harry Potter, I decided to make some “pumpkin juice.” I just mixed some apple cider with a little bit of pumpkin puree and some spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. It was a big hit! They felt like they were drinking something straight out of the books.

And you know what? Everyone had different tastes, so not everyone liked everything, but that’s okay! That’s why I made a few different things. My friend even brought over some brownies, which were a nice addition. So there you have it! My little adventure in making Thanksgiving desserts for kids. It was fun, a little messy, but totally worth it to see the smiles on their faces.
