So, I’ve always been a bit curious about Mexican alcoholic drinks, you know? I mean, everyone’s heard of tequila, but I figured there’s gotta be more to it than that. So, I started digging around, doing a little research, and decided to dive in headfirst.

Experimenting with Mexican Alcoholic Beverages

I started with the basics, you know, just like everyone else probably does. Tequila. But not just any tequila. I found out about this one called “Reposado”. Apparently, it’s aged a bit, not as young as the “Blanco” stuff, but not quite as old as “Anejo”. Anyway, I grabbed a bottle from the store, and man, it was way smoother than I expected. Definitely a step up from the cheap tequila I had in college.

Must-Try Mexican Alcoholic Beverages: A Simple List
  • Get the booze: First things first, I hit up my local liquor store. They had a decent selection of Mexican spirits, not just tequila but also some other stuff I’d never heard of.
  • Try it out: I started with the Reposado tequila. I poured myself a little, took a sip, and whoa. It was pretty good! Kind of woody, a little sweet.
  • Mix it up: Of course, you can’t just drink it straight all the time. I looked up some basic cocktails, like a Margarita and a Paloma. Easy stuff, just tequila, lime juice, maybe some sweetener or soda.
  • Explore more: The Agave spirits were intriguing, so I tried a few more, just a little taste of each. Some were smoky, some were kind of grassy. It’s a whole world of flavors, really.

After messing around with different types, I figured I should also try making some cocktails. I mean, that’s half the fun, right? I made a pretty decent Margarita. Just tequila, lime juice, and some orange liqueur. Not bad for a first try. Then I tried a Paloma, which is basically tequila and grapefruit soda. Super refreshing!

This whole experience taught me that there’s way more to Mexican alcoholic drinks than just tequila shots. There’s a lot of variety, and it’s actually pretty interesting to try different types and learn about how they’re made. I’m definitely no expert now, but I’ve got a new appreciation for this stuff. And hey, my homemade Margaritas are pretty killer now, if I do say so myself.

This is just the beginning, though. I’m thinking about trying some Mezcal next. I hear it’s even smokier than some tequilas. We’ll see how that goes. I’ll keep you guys posted.
