Today, I really wanted to try making a French Connection with Grand Marnier. It sounded fancy, and I had heard good things about it. So, I gathered all the stuff I needed and got to work.
First, I grabbed my cocktail shaker—it’s this old, reliable thing I’ve had for years. Then, I measured out 1 1/2 ounces of cognac. Honestly, I just eyeballed it a bit, but it looked about right. I poured that into the shaker. Next, I added the Grand Marnier. The recipe I found said to use 3/4 ounce, but I like mine a little sweeter, so I added a full ounce. I figured, why not? It’s my drink, after all.

Mixing it all up
- I filled the shaker with a bunch of ice.
- Then, I shook it like crazy for about 10 seconds. I wanted it to be really cold and well-mixed.
- After shaking, I strained the mix into a glass. I used a rocks glass because it felt right for this kind of drink.
Tasting Time
I took a sip, and wow, it was pretty strong but also really smooth. The cognac gave it a nice, warm kick, and the Grand Marnier added this sweet, orangey flavor that I loved. It was a bit different from what I expected, but in a good way. I didn’t add any garnish because I couldn’t be bothered, plus the recipe I read said it didn’t need any.
My Thoughts
Overall, making this French Connection was a fun little experiment. It’s definitely a grown-up drink, not too sweet, but with a lot of flavor. I can see why people like it. Would I make it again? For sure, especially if I’m in the mood for something classy and a bit strong. Plus, it’s super easy to make, which is always a bonus in my book.
