Okay, so, Thanksgiving is around the corner, and you know what that means? Time to get those little hands busy in the kitchen! I decided to tackle some fun Thanksgiving desserts with my kids this year, and let me tell you, it was a blast!
Get Everything Ready
First things first, I gathered all the ingredients. I’m talking about the usual suspects: flour, sugar, eggs, and a whole lot of candies and sprinkles. Oh, and of course, we needed some pumpkins because what’s Thanksgiving without pumpkins, right?

Start Making Desserts
We kicked things off with some candy acorns. These were super easy and a total hit with the kids. Basically, we just stuck some mini chocolate chips onto one side of a Nutter Butter cookie with some frosting as glue. Then, we stuck a pretzel stick on the other side to make it look like an acorn stem. Boom! Instant cute and tasty treats.
- Step 1: Stick mini chocolate chips on Nutter Butter cookie with frosting.
- Step 2: Add a pretzel stick for the stem.
Next up, we tried our hands at making a simple pumpkin pie. Now, I know pumpkin pie is a classic, but we added our own little twist. We used a store-bought pie crust because, let’s be honest, ain’t nobody got time to make crust from scratch with kids running around. We mixed together some pumpkin puree, eggs, sugar, and spices. The kids loved getting their hands dirty and stirring everything up. I recommend three to four desserts, because everyone has different tastes. And we poured the mixture into the crust and baked it until it was golden brown and delicious.
- Step 1: Use a store-bought pie crust.
- Step 2: Mix pumpkin puree, eggs, sugar, and spices.
- Step 3: Pour into crust and bake until golden brown.
We also made some turkey-shaped cookies using sugar cookie dough. We simply rolled out the dough, used turkey-shaped cookie cutters, and baked them. Once they were cool, we decorated them with different colored frosting and candies to make the feathers and faces. The kids had a blast getting creative with their turkey designs.
- Step 1: Roll out sugar cookie dough and use turkey-shaped cookie cutters.
- Step 2: Bake the cookies.
- Step 3: Decorate with frosting and candies.
Enjoy the Desserts
After all the baking and decorating, we finally got to enjoy the fruits of our labor. The candy acorns were a huge success, and the pumpkin pie was devoured in minutes. Even the turkey cookies were a hit, although some of them looked more like abstract art than actual turkeys. Haha.
All in all, it was a super fun and messy afternoon in the kitchen. Not only did we end up with some yummy Thanksgiving desserts, but we also made some great memories together. I highly recommend getting your kids involved in the kitchen this Thanksgiving. It’s a great way to spend quality time together and teach them some valuable cooking skills. Plus, you get to eat delicious desserts at the end! It doesn’t get much better than that.
