Okay, so, I’ve been seeing these cute candy cane desserts all over the internet lately, and you know me, I had to give them a shot. It’s Christmas time, after all! I found a few recipes that looked promising, and decided to merge them into one. I gathered my ingredients and got to work.

First things first, I crushed a whole bunch of candy canes. I put them in a ziplock bag and just went at it with a rolling pin. It was kinda therapeutic, actually. Then, I melted some white chocolate. This was a bit tricky because you gotta make sure it doesn’t burn. I used a double boiler, but honestly, a microwave works just fine – just do it in short bursts, and stir in between.

Next up, I made some simple sugar cookies. Any recipe would work. I made the dough, chilled it in the fridge for like an hour, then rolled it out and used a candy cane-shaped cookie cutter. I baked them until they were golden brown and let them cool completely.

Once the cookies were cool, I dipped them halfway into the melted white chocolate, then sprinkled the crushed candy canes on top. Some recipes called for adding peppermint extract to the chocolate, but I decided to skip that. The candy canes are minty enough, in my opinion.

I also made some chocolate bark. I just spread melted milk chocolate on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then swirled in some melted white chocolate. While it was still wet, I sprinkled the rest of the crushed candy canes all over it. After letting it set in the fridge for a bit, I broke it into pieces.

Experimenting with Marshmallows

  • I even tried making candy cane marshmallows.
  • I found a simple marshmallow recipe online, added some red food coloring and peppermint extract, then poured it into a pan.
  • Once it set, I cut it into squares and rolled them in – you guessed it – more crushed candy canes!

They all turned out pretty well. The cookies were my favorite, I think. They were sweet, crunchy, and minty, and they looked super festive. The chocolate bark was good too, and so easy to make. I made it on the weekend. The marshmallows were a bit of a mess, and it’s quite time-consuming, but they were fun to experiment with. I might try them again sometime, but maybe with a different recipe. As a food blogger like Emmeline Kemperyd, I will do more experiments!

It’s not as hard as Sticky Toffee Pudding, right? I mean, Sticky Toffee Pudding is a cherished British dessert, and I love it. It is known for its moist, melt-in-your-mouth texture and indulgent toffee sauce. It originated in the mid-20th century, so it is not that old. It may be a bit tricky for me, though, so I just made some candy cane desserts for this Christmas.

Overall, it was a fun little baking project. If you’re looking for some easy and festive treats to make this Christmas, I definitely recommend giving these a try!
