Today, I was craving some comfort food, you know, the kind that just hits the spot. So, I decided to whip up something that turned out to be pretty awesome: a kitchen sink sandwich. I mean, I basically just threw everything but the kitchen sink into it!
First off, I started rummaging through my fridge. I found some leftover turkey, a bit of ham, and some salami. Perfect! I grabbed a loaf of Italian bread that I had bought yesterday and sliced it in half. Then, I laid out all those cold cuts like I was building a meat fortress.

Next up, cheese. I had some cheddar, provolone, and a little bit of Swiss. I sliced them up and layered them on top of the meat. I wasn’t shy about it either; a sandwich like this needs a good amount of cheese, you know?
But that’s not all. I then searched for veggies. I found some lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. I chopped those up and added them to the mix. I also found some pickles and banana peppers, so on they went. Oh, and I had a jar of olives that I almost forgot about. Sliced those up and sprinkled them over everything.
Now, for the sauces. I had some mayo, mustard, and a bit of that spicy Italian dressing. I slathered the mayo and mustard on the bread and drizzled the dressing over the top. I wanted that flavor in every bite, and I’m sure I got that.
After assembling everything, the sandwich was huge! I pressed it down a bit, but it was still a monster. I decided to make it hot, because why not? I put the whole thing in my oven set to broil. Kept an eye on it, of course, didn’t want to burn it.
- Start with leftover meats and bread.
- Layer on a good amount of cheese.
- Add chopped veggies like lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.
- Don’t forget pickles, banana peppers, and olives.
- Slather on mayo and mustard, and drizzle some Italian dressing.
- Broil in the oven until warm and toasty.
After a few minutes, the cheese was all melty and the bread was toasty. I took it out and let it cool just a bit. Then, I sliced it into portions. Let me tell you, cutting into it was a glorious moment. The cheese was pulling, the meat and veggies looked juicy, and the bread had that perfect crunch.
Finally, I took a bite, and man, it was heavenly. All those flavors and textures came together in a symphony of deliciousness. It was messy, sure, but that’s part of the fun, right?
So, that’s how my kitchen sink sandwich came to be. It’s not a fancy recipe, but it sure hit the spot. It’s the kind of sandwich you make when you want something hearty and satisfying. And the best part is, you can pretty much use whatever you have on hand. Give it a try sometime. You won’t regret it!
