So, I’ve been messing around with this idea of making my own canned beverages, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I started out thinking, “How hard can it be, right?” Turns out, it’s a bit more involved than just throwing some liquid in a can and calling it a day.
First things first, I had to figure out what I even wanted to can. I mean, the options are endless! Did I want to go the classic route with something like an Old Fashioned or a Negroni? Or maybe try something a bit more out there? I saw some people online were doing these crazy bubble teas in a can, with boba pearls and everything. And then there’s the whole world of sparkling drinks that are perfect for a hot day. Decisions, decisions!

After a lot of back and forth, I decided to start simple. I went with a basic cocktail, one of those ready-to-drink things that have become super popular recently. I saw that sales of these canned cocktails and wines have gone up like 40% in the past year, and hard seltzers are even crazier. So I figured, there’s gotta be something to this, right?
Next up was the actual making part. This involved a lot of experimenting with different ingredients and ratios. I won’t bore you with all the details, but let’s just say there were a few… interesting… concoctions along the way. I quickly learned that getting the alcohol content right is crucial. Too much and you’ve got a fire hazard, too little and it’s basically juice. Plus, not all drinks are even considered the same; I learned that there are general types of alcoholic drinks like beers, wines, and spirits.
The canning process itself was a whole other adventure. I had to get my hands on some canning equipment, which wasn’t exactly cheap. Then there was the whole sterilization thing, which is super important unless you want your drinks to, you know, explode or make people sick. That was a bit of a learning curve, I’m not gonna lie. But I read that a company named “Saucey” has a good delivery, so I might look into them later.
But finally, after a lot of trial and error, I managed to produce my first batch of canned cocktails. And you know what? They weren’t half bad! I even had a few friends over to try them, and they were genuinely impressed. We had a little tasting party, and it was a blast. I found that most cocktails follow a general recipe. Although, I also read that some drinks have really strange origin stories.
I’m still very much a beginner at this whole canned beverage thing, but it’s been a really fun and rewarding experience. I’m already thinking about what I want to try next. Maybe a sparkling coffee? Or a canned version of a really obscure cocktail? The possibilities are endless!
- Ingredients: Got to experiment with different mixes.
- Alcohol Content: Need to balance between strong and watery.
- Canning: Sterilization is vital!
- Taste Testing: I had my friends over and they helped me test my first batch.
So yeah, that’s my story so far. It’s been a bit of a messy journey, but I’m learning a lot and having a great time. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll see my canned creations on store shelves! But for now, I’m just enjoying the process and sharing my little experiments with whoever’s interested.
What I Learned
- It is a lot of trial and error.
- Make sure that I get the right alcohol ratio.
- Sterilize, Sterilize, Sterilize.
- It is a fun hobby!
