Okay, let’s talk about making some refrigerated desserts. I’ve always found them to be a great option when I’m craving something sweet but don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen. Plus, they’re perfect for hot weather!
So, I started by deciding what kind of dessert I was in the mood for. There are so many choices, like no-bake cheesecakes, puddings, mousses, and icebox cakes. After browsing through some recipes, I settled on making a simple chocolate mousse. It seemed easy enough, and who doesn’t love chocolate, right?

Gathering Supplies
First things first, I gathered all the ingredients and tools I would need. For this mousse, I needed:
- Heavy cream
- Good quality chocolate
- Sugar
- Eggs
- Vanilla extract
As for tools, I grabbed my electric mixer, a couple of bowls, a saucepan, a spatula, and some ramekins to serve the mousse in.
Making the Mousse
I started by chopping the chocolate into small pieces. Then, I melted it in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until it was smooth. Once melted, I took it off the heat and let it cool slightly.
Next, I whipped the heavy cream in a large bowl using my electric mixer until it formed stiff peaks. In a separate bowl, I whisked together the egg yolks and sugar until they were pale and thick. I also whisked the egg whites, in another bowl, until they were firm.
Then, I slowly poured the melted chocolate into the egg yolk mixture, stirring continuously. After that, I added a splash of vanilla extract. I folded about a third of the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture to lighten it up, and then I gently folded in the rest, and then folded the egg whites in the end. I made sure not to overmix, as I wanted the mousse to be light and airy.
Chilling and Serving
Once the mousse was ready, I spooned it into the ramekins. I covered them with plastic wrap and placed them in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours. You can also chill it overnight if you want a firmer texture.
When it was time to serve, I took the mousse out of the fridge. You can eat it as is, or you can get fancy and top it with some whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries. I opted for some raspberries, and it was delicious!

Overall, making this refrigerated dessert was a breeze. It was pretty straightforward, and the results were amazing. I’ll definitely be making this again, and maybe next time I’ll try a different flavor. I’m thinking a lemon or coffee mousse would be quite tasty too!
So, if you’re looking for a simple and satisfying dessert that doesn’t require baking, I highly recommend giving refrigerated desserts a try. You won’t be disappointed!
