Okay, so bacon in desserts? I heard about it, and I was like, “No way, that’s gotta be weird.” But then, my friend, she’s like a baking genius, made these bacon chocolate chip cookies. And let me tell you, my mind was blown! The salty, smoky bacon with the sweet, melty chocolate… it was a flavor explosion. So, naturally, I had to try making some bacon desserts myself.
First Attempt: Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies
I started with the cookies ’cause they seemed easy enough. I found a basic chocolate chip cookie recipe online. I cooked up some bacon until it was super crispy, chopped it up real fine, and mixed it into the dough.

- The recipe said to chill the dough, so I did that.
- Then I baked them like normal cookies.
They smelled amazing while baking, all sweet and smoky. I pulled them out of the oven, let them cool a bit, and then I took a bite. Oh. My. Goodness. They were even better than my friend’s! The bacon added this amazing depth of flavor. I was officially a bacon dessert convert.
Next Up: Candied Bacon
Feeling confident, I decided to try candied bacon. I mean, how hard could it be? I laid some bacon strips on a baking sheet, brushed them with maple syrup, and sprinkled some brown sugar on top. Then I baked them until they were all caramelized and crispy.
- I should’ve watched the video, because I was a little bit rush.
- It turned out to be a bit burnt. But still edible.
- My wife said I need to be more patient.
This was a little trickier. I might’ve overcooked them a bit, but they were still pretty good. Chewy, sweet, salty, smoky… all the good stuff. I crumbled some on top of vanilla ice cream, and it was like a party in my mouth. You really should learn from my lesson and be more careful when you cook candied bacon.
The Ultimate Test: Bacon Brownies
For my final experiment, I went all out and made bacon brownies. I used my go-to brownie recipe, mixed in some chopped cooked bacon and some of that candied bacon from before. I even drizzled some extra maple syrup on top before baking.
- I use my go-to brownie recipe from my mom. It’s a secret.
- This time, I am being really careful not to burn anything.
- I set the alarm on my phone.
These brownies were the ultimate bacon dessert. Fudgy, chocolatey, with that perfect hint of salt and smoke from the bacon. They were rich, decadent, and totally addictive. I brought some to work, and my coworkers went crazy for them. It’s not burnt! I nailed it!
So, yeah, bacon in desserts is definitely a thing, and it’s amazing. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try it out. You might just surprise yourself. I know I did!
