So, I’ve been wanting a beverage fridge for a while now, but the ones I found in stores were always too deep for the space I had in mind. You know, those standard ones that stick out like a sore thumb? Yeah, not what I was going for. I needed something with a shallower depth, something that wouldn’t turn my kitchen into an obstacle course.
I started looking around. I checked out the usual suspects and big box stores, but the selection was limited when it came to shallow depth. Most of them were just the regular size. I spent hours measuring, looking at specs online, and let me tell you that information was all over the place. It was like there are no standards or something, which got me a little annoyed.

After searching and searching I found it was really hard to find one, but I really wanted it, and I’m not the type to give up so easily. I started to think maybe I need to make one myself or something.
Then, I had an idea. Maybe I could modify a regular fridge? I mean, how hard could it be, right? Turns out, harder than I thought. I watched some videos online about how refrigerators work, and it seemed a bit overwhelming. All those tubes and cooling stuff, I realized I am not qualified to work with those myself, and I should not risk it.
Then I came across this small beverage fridge that was meant for, like, a dorm room or something. It was pretty shallow, but it was also kind of small. It would be great if I could find two or more of those, and make a combined one.
I purchased two of these small fridges. When I got them, I put them side by side. Perfect! They fit the space just right, and they weren’t sticking out too much. I plugged them in and they were super quiet. After I made sure they work fine, I started to think about how to make them into one single fridge.
I got some strong adhesive, the kind they use for construction stuff, and put a good amount on the sides of the fridges where they touch. Then, I pushed them together and made sure they were aligned. To keep them in place while the adhesive was doing its thing, I used some heavy-duty straps around both fridges. It looked a bit funny, but it worked.
- First, I placed both fridges side by side in the spot I had in mind.
- Second, I applied the adhesive on the sides where the fridges connect.
- Third, I pressed them together firmly and made sure they were aligned perfectly.
- Finally, I used straps to keep them together tightly while the adhesive set.
After a day or so, I removed the straps. And there it was, my custom-made, shallow-depth beverage fridge! It looks pretty decent, and it’s the perfect size. Plus, I didn’t have to spend a fortune on some fancy model that didn’t even exist.
The only thing is that I have to open two doors to see all of the contents, I will see what I can do about it. But for now, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it works, and it’s exactly what I wanted. It just goes to show that sometimes, you gotta get a little creative to get what you need.

Lessons Learned:
- Finding the right size fridge can be tough: There aren’t a lot of options out there for shallow-depth fridges.
- DIY can be tricky but rewarding: Modifying things can be a challenge, but it’s satisfying when it works.
- Patience is key: Waiting for adhesives to dry and things to set takes time.
- Measure twice, buy once: Make sure you know the dimensions you need before you start buying stuff.
So yeah, that’s my story of how I ended up with a custom beverage fridge. Not the most conventional way, but hey, it works for me!
