Okay, so I’ve been messing around with making some drinks at home, and I got this idea to try out some black alcoholic beverages. I figured, why not? It could be fun, right?
Getting Started
First, I grabbed a bunch of stuff from the store. I needed some black vodka, which I found after checking out like three different places. Then I picked up some black food coloring, just in case. I also got some regular vodka, some Kahlua, and some other random things I thought might work.

Mixing and Matching
I started by just pouring some of the black vodka into a glass. It looked pretty cool, all dark and mysterious. I took a sip, and it tasted pretty much like regular vodka, maybe a little sweeter. Not bad.
Then I tried making a Black Russian. You know, the classic one with vodka and Kahlua. I used the black vodka instead of the clear stuff. It turned out alright, but honestly, the color didn’t really change much because the Kahlua is already so dark.
- Black Vodka – it’s basically vodka but black!
- Kahlua – coffee liqueur, super dark.
- Regular Vodka – for experimenting.
- Black Food Coloring – just in case things went wrong.
Experimenting
After that, I started getting a little more creative. I mixed the black vodka with some cranberry juice and a splash of lime. It looked kinda like a dark purple, which was interesting. It tasted okay, but nothing special.
Then I had this crazy idea to add black food coloring to regular vodka. I just put in a few drops, and it turned the whole thing pitch black. It looked awesome! But, I have to say, it didn’t really change the taste at all. It was just regular vodka, but black.
The End Result
So, after all that, I ended up with a few different black drinks. Some were better than others. The black vodka on its own was fine. The Black Russian with black vodka was okay, but nothing to write home about. The cranberry juice thing was meh. The regular vodka with food coloring was visually the best, but the taste was just… vodka.
It was a fun little experiment. Maybe next time I’ll try using different mixers or maybe even some activated charcoal. We’ll see! If you have any suggestions for making black alcoholic beverages, I’d love to hear them!
