Okay, so I saw this trend going around about making desserts with watermelon, and I just had to try it. Watermelon is, like, the ultimate summer fruit, right? So I figured, why not experiment a little?
My Watermelon Dessert Journey
First things first, I grabbed a big ol’ watermelon from the store. I thumped it a few times to make sure it sounded hollow – that’s how you know it’s ripe, my grandma taught me that! Then, I lugged it home and got to work.

My initial idea was to make a simple watermelon granita. I’ve made it with other fruits before, and it’s always a hit. So, I chopped up half the watermelon into chunks, making sure to get rid of most of the seeds (a few always sneak in, though!).
- I blended the watermelon chunks until it was pretty smooth.
- Then, I mixed in some lime juice – just a squeeze – and a little bit of sugar. I didn’t want it to be too sweet, you know? The watermelon itself is already sweet enough.
- I poured the mixture into a shallow dish and stuck it in the freezer.
- The fun part: Every hour or so, I took it out and scraped it with a fork to create those icy crystals. It took a few hours, but that’s the way.
While the granita was freezing, I got a bit ambitious. I decided to try making watermelon sorbet, too! I found a recipe online that used coconut milk, which sounded interesting.
- Use the other half watermelon and repeat the first two steps like making granita.
- I added a can of coconut milk. Make sure it well mixed.
- I used my ice cream maker this time. I poured the mixture in and let it churn away.
Finally, both desserts are ready! The granita was this beautiful, light pink color, and the sorbet was super creamy. Honestly, they both turned out amazing! The granita was so refreshing, perfect for a hot day. And the sorbet? The coconut milk gave it this subtle tropical vibe that I loved. The whole process was pretty easy, to be honest! Now, I just enjoy them!
