Okay, so I’ve been seeing those Lipton Onion Soup Mix recipes all over the internet, and I finally decided to give the whole “vegetable soup mix” thing a try. I gotta say, I was a little skeptical at first. Could a packet of dried stuff really make a decent soup? Turns out, yeah, it kinda can!
I started by grabbing a box of the Lipton Recipe Secrets Vegetable Soup Mix. It’s, like, in every grocery store, so no problem finding it. Then, I looked at the back of the box, you know, for some basic instructions. It’s pretty straightforward.

My Experiment Begins
I decided to go basic, just to see what the mix itself tasted like. Here is what I did:
- I poured 4 cups of water into a pot.
- I dumped in the entire packet of soup mix.
- I stirred it all up, making sure there were no clumps of powder.
- Then I brought everything to a boil. Easy peasy.
- Once it was boiling, I turned down the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, like the box said.
While it was simmering, I took a peek. It smelled… surprisingly good! Like, way better than I expected. The little veggie bits were starting to plump up.
Adding My Own Touches
After the 10 minutes, I tasted it. It was… okay. Definitely needed more oomph. So, I raided my fridge and pantry. I think I can cook a better one!
- I chopped up some carrots and celery that were about to go bad.
- I threw those in.
- I also added a handful of frozen peas, because why not?
- And for some protein, a can of drained and rinsed kidney beans!
I let all that simmer for another 15 minutes or so, until the carrots were soft. The soup was looking a lot more substantial now.
The Final Result
I ladled myself a big bowl, and… wow. Honestly, it was pretty darn good! The Lipton mix gave it a solid, savory base, and my additions made it feel like a real, hearty meal. I sprinkled on a little black pepper, and boom. Dinner is ready.
I think the key here is to use the Lipton mix as a starting point, not the whole shebang. It’s a great flavor base, but you definitely want to add your own veggies, beans, maybe even some cooked chicken or pasta, to make it a complete soup. Would I make it again? Absolutely. It’s super easy, cheap, and you can customize it however you want.
