Okay, so I’ve been seeing these super cute basketball-themed desserts all over Pinterest and Instagram lately, and I just had to try making some myself. I’m no professional baker, but I figured, how hard could it be, right? Famous last words, maybe…

The Game Plan

I decided to tackle three different treats: basketball cake pops, orange-colored and basketball-decorated sugar cookies, and a chocolate cupcake with frosting shaped like a basketball.

Basketball Themed Desserts: Creative Ideas for Fans of All Ages!

Round 1: Cake Pops

First up, the cake pops. I baked a simple vanilla cake from a box mix – ain’t no shame in my game. Once it cooled, I crumbled it up into a big bowl and mixed it with a tub of store-bought frosting. It got real messy, real fast. Then, I rolled the mixture into little balls. So far, so good.

Next, I melted some orange candy melts. This is where things started to go downhill. The melts were kinda thick, and I probably didn’t thin them out enough. I dipped the cake balls into the orange goop, and let me tell you, they looked… rough. More like lumpy orange blobs than basketballs. I stuck some lollipop sticks in them anyway and popped them in the fridge to harden.

Round 2: Sugar Cookies

While my cake pops is in the fridge.I started to make my *,I mixed the flour, baking soda, and salt in a large *,in another bowl,I cream together the butter and sugar until *,I beat in eggs and * that,I gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until *,I use food coloring to dye the * put it to freez about 1 hour.

I took the dough to make them basketball.I roll it into 1/4-inch-thick.I use a round cookie cutter to cut out the *, bake in the oven for * it was done,I put the cookies on a wire rack to cool * the cookies were completely cool, I decorated them.

Round 3: Cupcakes

The cupcakes were the easiest part, thankfully. I used another box mix (chocolate this time, because duh) and whipped up some chocolate frosting. I tinted some of the frosting orange and then tried to pipe it onto the cupcakes to look like basketballs. My piping skills are… not great. They ended up looking more like… well, orange swirls. But hey, they tasted good!

The Final Buzzer

Okay, so my basketball-themed desserts weren’t exactly Instagram-worthy. The cake pops were lumpy, the cookies were rough, and the cupcakes were… abstract. But you know what? They were fun to make (even with the near-disasters), and they were delicious. And that’s all that really matters, right? I’ll definitely try these again, and maybe next time I’ll actually watch a tutorial video before I start.
