Okay, so I’ve been seeing these gorgeous dessert trays all over Pinterest and Instagram, and I finally decided to make my own. It looked like fun, and honestly, who doesn’t love a good dessert spread?
First, I gathered all my materials. I already had a large, flat wooden tray that I got from a craft store a while back. I also picked up some cute little bowls and ramekins in different sizes – I wanted some variety in height and shape, you know?

Getting Started
Before I started arranging anything, I made sure the tray was clean. I gave it a good wipe-down with a damp cloth and let it dry completely. You don’t want any dust or crumbs messing with your pretty desserts!
Next, the fun part – choosing the desserts! I decided to go with a mix of things, something for everyone. I baked some brownies (because, duh), made some chocolate-covered strawberries, and bought some macarons from a local bakery. I also added some colorful candies and cookies to fill in the gaps.
Arrangement is Key
- I started by placing the larger items first, like the bowl of brownies and the plate of strawberries. I put them towards the back and sides of the tray to create a sort of backdrop.
- Then, I filled in the middle with the smaller bowls of candies and macarons. I tried to alternate colors and textures to make it visually appealing. No one wants a boring-looking tray!
- I filled in the remaining gaps with the remaining cookies.
- I made sure everything was easily accessible,I didn’t want people to have to reach over a mountain of cookies to get to a brownie!
I kept moving things around until I was happy with the layout. It’s all about trial and error, really. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, just whatever looks good to you.
Finally, I added a few decorative touches. I had some fresh mint sprigs, so I tucked those in here and there for a pop of green. You could also use flowers, ribbons, or anything else that fits your theme.
And that’s it! My dessert tray was ready to go. It was super easy to make, and it looked (and tasted!) amazing. Definitely a win-win!
