Okay, so I saw these Doritos Tangy Pickle chips at the store the other day and I just had to try them. I’m a big pickle fan, so I was pretty pumped. But, you know, sometimes these limited-edition flavors are a total letdown. So, before fully committing, I figured I’d do a little digging into what makes these things tick – ingredient-wise.
My Ingredient Investigation
First, I grabbed the bag and flipped it over. You know, the usual suspect – the ingredient list. It’s always a bit of a jungle to read through, but here’s what I picked out:

- Corn: Okay, obviously. It’s a Dorito.
- Vegetable Oil: A blend, it seems. Sunflower, canola, and/or corn oil. Pretty standard.
- Salt: Yep, gotta have that.
- Maltodextrin:This is something often used, seen it before on other chips.
- Sugar: Didn’t see much of this.
Then things got a little more “pickley”:
- Natural Flavors: Ah, the mystery ingredient! This is probably where a lot of the pickle magic happens, but they don’t tell you exactly what’s in it.
- Vinegar Solids: That’s the tangy punch, I bet.
- Malic Acid:Adds extra flavour to the chips.
- Garlic Powder & Onion Powder: Gotta have that savory, almost-dill-pickle vibe.
- Spice: That’s all the bag said.
Putting It All Together
So, basically, it looked like they were going for a classic dill pickle flavor profile. I mean, the vinegar, garlic, onion… all the usual suspects were there. The “natural flavors” part is always a bit vague, but I figured it probably included some dill weed extract or something similar. It’s all about getting that balance of salty, tangy, and a little bit herby.
Honestly, reading the ingredients didn’t make me any less excited to try them. It just confirmed that they were probably going to taste like a decent pickle chip. And you know what? They did! They were pretty darn good. Not too overpowering, but definitely a solid pickle flavor. I’d probably grab another bag, which is saying something.
