Okay, let’s dive into my little culinary adventure today. I decided to try and get a “taste of Indian cuisine” – pretty broad, I know, but hey, gotta start somewhere, right?
The Prep Work
First, I scoured the internet for some simple recipes. I wasn’t about to attempt anything too crazy on my first go. I settled on butter chicken and garlic naan – seemed classic enough, and hopefully not too difficult.

Next, I hit the grocery store. The spice aisle was a bit overwhelming! So many colors and smells. I carefully picked out the spices I needed: turmeric, garam masala, cumin, coriander, chili powder… the list went on. I also grabbed some fresh ingredients like chicken, onions, garlic, ginger, and cilantro.
The Cooking Begins
Back home, I chopped everything up. I’m not the fastest chopper, but I managed to get everything into reasonably sized pieces. The chicken got marinated in yogurt and spices – that was a new one for me, but I followed the recipe (mostly!).
Then came the fun part: actually cooking! I sautéed the onions and garlic, then added the ginger and spices. The kitchen started to smell amazing. I carefully browned the chicken, then stirred in the tomato puree and cream. It simmered for a while, and I kept sneaking little tastes – had to make sure it was good, you know?
Naan-sense!
While the butter chicken was simmering, I tackled the naan. I’d bought some pre-made dough (no shame in that!), so I just rolled it out and cooked it in a hot pan. It puffed up nicely, and I brushed it with some melted butter and garlic. Yum!
The Final Result
- The butter chicken was creamy, flavorful, and just a little bit spicy.
- The naan was soft, fluffy, and perfect for scooping up the sauce.
Overall, I’d say my “taste of Indian cuisine” was a success! It was definitely more work than my usual weeknight meals, but it was totally worth it. I felt pretty accomplished, and my kitchen smelled incredible for hours afterward. Might even try making my own naan dough next time… maybe.
