Okay, so I saw these Bob Evans mashed potatoes at the store the other day, and I thought, “Hey, I can probably make these myself!” I mean, how hard could it be, right? Potatoes, butter, milk… the usual suspects. So, I grabbed my phone and looked up “bob evans potatoes ingredients.”
My Little Potato Adventure Begins
I started by gathering everything I thought I’d need. I’m a simple cook, so I don’t have anything fancy.

- Potatoes (I used Russets, ’cause that’s what I had)
- Butter (lots of it, because… butter)
- Milk (whole milk, because I like it creamy)
- Salt and pepper (to taste, of course)
I peeled the potatoes and chopped them up into chunks. I’m not gonna lie, my chopping skills are not the best. Some pieces were big, some were small. I figured it would all work out in the end. Then, I tossed them into a pot of water and brought it to a boil.
While the potatoes were cooking, I melted a good chunk of butter in a separate pan. Because, as I said, butter makes everything better. I let them boil that’s all about 15-20 minutes.
Once the potatoes were nice and soft (I tested them with a fork – went right in!), I drained them and put them back in the pot. Then, I poured in the melted butter, a good splash of milk, and a healthy dose of salt and pepper.
Now for the fun part – mashing! I don’t have a fancy potato masher, so I just used a big fork. I mashed and mashed until things looked pretty smooth. I added a little more milk here and there to get the consistency I wanted. I like them creamy, not too stiff.
The Taste Test
Finally, I scooped a big spoonful onto my plate and took a bite. You know what? They weren’t bad! Not exactly like Bob Evans, but pretty darn close. I think next time I might add a little sour cream or maybe even some garlic. But for a first try, I was pretty happy with myself!
It’s definitely cheaper than buying the pre-made stuff, and it was kind of fun to do. So, if you’re looking for a simple mashed potato recipe, give this a shot!
