Today, I felt like trying something new in the kitchen, so I decided to make some Amish desserts. I’ve always been curious about Amish cooking, it’s so simple and traditional.

Getting Started

First, I gathered all the ingredients. I found a few recipes online, and they all seemed pretty straightforward. Flour, sugar, butter, eggs – the usual stuff. Nothing too fancy, which is just what I wanted.

Mixing and Baking

I started with an Amish cake. The recipe was super easy. I just mixed everything together in a big bowl. No need for a mixer or anything, just a good old wooden spoon. I greased a baking pan, poured the batter in, and popped it in the oven. While the cake was baking, I moved on to the next dessert – a pie.

  • Mixing the dough: For the pie crust, I mixed flour, salt, and shortening. I added a bit of cold water until it formed a dough. I’m not the best at making pie crusts, but this one turned out okay.
  • Making the filling: I decided on an apple filling. I sliced some apples, mixed them with sugar, cinnamon, and a bit of flour. Simple and smelled amazing.
  • Assembling the pie: I rolled out the dough, put it in a pie dish, and filled it with the apple mixture. I made a lattice top, just like I saw in the pictures online. It looked pretty good, if I do say so myself.

The Waiting Game

The hardest part was waiting for everything to bake. The cake took about 30 minutes, and the pie needed around 45 minutes. My kitchen started to smell incredible. I kept peeking in the oven, watching the cake and pie turn golden brown.

The Taste Test

Finally, everything was ready. I took the cake and pie out of the oven and let them cool for a bit. Then came the best part – tasting! The cake was moist and delicious. It had a simple, comforting flavor. The pie was also a hit. The apples were tender, and the crust, although not perfect, was flaky and buttery.

Final Thoughts

Making these Amish desserts was a fun experience. It felt like taking a step back in time, making something from scratch with simple ingredients. I’m definitely going to try more Amish recipes in the future. Maybe next time I’ll try making some bread or cookies. It’s amazing how such simple recipes can taste so good. If you’re looking for something easy and delicious to bake, I highly recommend trying out some Amish desserts. You won’t be disappointed!
