Alright, so I was kicking back the other evening, decided to make some popcorn. Grabbed the usual box, the Kirkland Signature stuff from Costco, the microwave kind. It’s just easy, you know?
As the bag was spinning around in the microwave, making all that popping noise, I actually picked up the box. Don’t usually pay much attention, but this time I thought, “What exactly am I eating here?” So, I turned it over and looked for that ingredients list. Sometimes you just gotta check.

So, what’s in the bag?
Here’s what the label said. Pretty simple, really.
- Popcorn
- Palm Oil
- Salt
- Natural Flavor
- Ascorbic Acid (To Preserve Freshness)
That was it. Popcorn, obviously. Then Palm Oil – seems like lots of snacks use that. Salt, can’t have popcorn without salt, right? The Natural Flavor part is always a bit of a mystery box, isn’t it? Could be anything, but I guess it tastes fine. And Ascorbic Acid, which is basically Vitamin C, just there to keep it from going stale, I guess.
Honestly, I was expecting maybe a longer, weirder list. It’s not too bad. It’s microwave popcorn, after all. Super convenient, takes like 3 minutes.
I know some folks are really careful and only make popcorn from scratch on the stove. That way you control everything – the oil, the salt, all that. And yeah, that’s probably better sometimes. But most days? Popping a bag in the microwave just works. You just gotta remember stuff like palm oil and salt add up, like with most processed snacks.
Anyway, just thought I’d share what I found when I actually stopped to read the box for once. It’s the Kirkland brand, Costco’s label. Does the trick for a quick snack.
