Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “beefless” thing, trying to cut down on my meat consumption. It’s not about going full-on vegetarian or vegan, just… less. Here’s how my week went, bumps and all.
Day 1: The “Oh Crap, What Did I Sign Up For?” Day
Started the day with good intentions. I opened the fridge, stared at the usual bacon and eggs, and… grabbed some yogurt and fruit instead. Lunch was where it got tricky. My go-to is usually a turkey sandwich. So, I swapped the turkey for… hummus and veggies. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t a turkey sandwich, you know?

Dinner was a veggie stir-fry. I’m not gonna lie, I added a tiny bit of chicken broth for flavor. Baby steps, right?
Day 2: The “Actually, This Isn’t So Bad” Day
Breakfast was the same yogurt and fruit deal. Easy peasy. For lunch, I made a big salad with chickpeas, quinoa, and a ton of chopped veggies. I even whipped up my own lemon vinaigrette. Feeling pretty good about myself.
Dinner was lentil soup. I’m normally not a huge lentil fan, but I found a recipe online that looked decent, and it was actually pretty hearty and filling. I threw in some crusty bread for dipping, because, bread.
Day 3: The “I Miss Burgers” Day
Okay, the novelty is starting to wear off. I really, really wanted a burger. I resisted the urge, though. Made a black bean burger instead. It wasn’t the same, obviously, but with some avocado and a good bun, it was surprisingly satisfying. I learned that texture is key here.
Day 4: The “Experimentation” Day
Got a little adventurous today. I tried making mushroom “steaks.” I marinated some big portobello mushrooms in balsamic vinegar and herbs, then grilled them. Served them with some roasted sweet potatoes. Honestly, it was pretty delicious! The mushrooms had a nice, meaty texture.
Day 5: The “Okay, I Can Do This” Day
Realized that this whole “beefless” thing isn’t about deprivation. It’s about finding new things I like. I’ve been eating way more vegetables than usual, and I actually feel pretty good. For dinner made a pasta dish with a creamy tomato sauce and lots of veggies, no meat and it was great!
Day 6 and 7: Smooth sailing
By the end of the week, I had a few go-to meals, which made everything easier and I now eat more often than before!

My Beefless Takeaways (So Far):
- It’s not all or nothing. I’m not giving up meat entirely, just cutting back.
- Planning is key. If I don’t have some meatless options ready, I’m way more likely to cave.
- Flavor is everything. Bland, boring veggie dishes are a recipe for failure.
- There are tons of resources online. So many recipes and ideas out there!
- It gets easier. The first few days were the hardest, but it definitely gets better.
So, that’s my beefless journey so far. Still a work in progress, but I’m feeling pretty good about it. I’ll keep you guys updated!
