Okay, so I wanted to make something fun for my next get-together, and I thought, “Hey, a beverage fountain! That’ll be cool.” So I went down this rabbit hole of figuring out how to build one myself.
First, I gathered all my stuff. I needed a big punch bowl – the clear kind, so you can see all the colorful drinks swirling around. Then, I grabbed a small submersible pump, you know, like the ones for little tabletop fountains. Some flexible tubing was a must, and I found some at the hardware store.

Putting It All Together
The assembly was… well, let’s just say there was some trial and error. I placed the pump at the bottom of the bowl. Then, I connected the tubing to the pump’s outlet. It was a bit fiddly, but I managed to get it on there nice and tight.
The tricky part was figuring out how to get the tubing to go up and over the edge of the bowl without it looking, you know, totally awkward. I ended up using some clear plastic clips – the kind you use for organizing cables – and stuck them to the inside of the bowl. That helped keep the tubing in place and mostly hidden.
Then came the fountain head. I initially tried using just the end of the tubing, but the drink just kind of dribbled out. Not very impressive. So, I experimented with a few different things. A small plastic funnel? Nope. A piece of a spray bottle nozzle? Still not quite right.
- First attempt: Just the tubing – fail.
- Second attempt: Funnel – also fail.
- Third attempt: Spray nozzle. still not perfect.
Finally, I found this little decorative plastic piece – I think it was meant for a cake or something – and it had these tiny holes around the edge. I attached that to the end of the tubing, and it actually worked pretty well! It created a nice, gentle spray.
Showtime!
I filled the bowl with some fruit punch, added some sliced oranges and lemons for extra flair, and plugged in the pump. And there it was – my homemade beverage fountain! It wasn’t perfect, the spray was a little uneven, but everyone thought it was awesome. And honestly, watching the punch cascade down was pretty satisfying.
It was a bit of a messy project, and my kitchen counter definitely saw some spills, but it was totally worth it. Next time, I might try to find a slightly more powerful pump, and maybe a more professional-looking fountain head. But for a first attempt, I’m pretty proud of my DIY beverage fountain!
