So, I’ve been trying to get into the whole Lent thing, you know, observing it and all. And I figured, what better way to do that than to try out some catholic recipes for lent, right? I mean, I’m not Catholic, but I’m always up for trying new things in the kitchen. Plus, it’s a good excuse to eat more fish, which is something I’ve been meaning to do anyway.
I started my little culinary adventure last week. I did some digging online, just a basic search, nothing fancy. I wanted to see what this whole “no meat on Fridays” during Lent was about. Apparently, it’s because Jesus died on a Friday. Makes sense, I guess. Anyway, I was more interested in the food part of it. I needed some tasty recipes, and I think I got good ones.

My first attempt was on this past Friday. I decided to go with a classic – British Fish and Chips. I mean, who doesn’t love a good fish and chips, right? I found a recipe online, followed it step by step. It wasn’t too complicated, just your basic batter, some cod fillets, and a bunch of potatoes for the chips.
- First, I got the potatoes all peeled and sliced up.
- Then, I started working on the batter. It was a simple mix of flour, some spices, and a bit of beer – which I thought was pretty cool.
- After that, I dipped the fish fillets in the batter, making sure they were nice and coated.
- The tricky part was the frying. I don’t fry stuff often, so I was a bit nervous. But I heated up the oil, carefully dropped in the fish, and hoped for the best. Same goes for the chips.
The Outcome
You know what? It turned out pretty darn good! The fish was crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside. And the chips were just perfect – golden brown and delicious. I gotta say, I was pretty proud of myself. It felt good to cook something new and have it turn out so well. And it definitely hit the spot. I might even make it again when it’s not Lent. We’ll see.
I’m thinking of trying some shrimp recipes next, or maybe some salmon. There are so many options out there. It’s like a whole new world of cooking has opened up to me. And it’s kinda fun to have these little restrictions, like no meat on Fridays. It makes me get more creative in the kitchen. Who knew observing Lent could be so… tasty?
Anyway, that’s my little cooking story for now. I’ll probably be back with more updates as I try out other Lent recipes. It’s been a fun experiment so far, and I’m excited to see what else I can whip up. It’s just me, trying new stuff, making a bit of a mess in the kitchen, and hopefully ending up with something yummy on my plate. No big deal, just everyday stuff. I gotta say, I did feel a bit of connection to the whole reason behind Lent, even though I’m not religious. It’s like, sharing this common tradition with so many people, even if it’s just through food. Pretty cool, if you ask me. Who knows, maybe I’ll learn a thing or two about myself along the way. Or maybe I’ll just end up with a bunch of new favorite recipes. Either way, it’s a win, right?
