Okay, let’s talk about keeping a commercial kitchen spick and span. You know, those places can get nasty real quick with all the cooking and frying going on. Grease everywhere! So, I had to find something that could really cut through that grime. Started off by hitting up the usual spots, you know, the big-box stores and the restaurant supply places.
I grabbed a few different things to try out. One of them was this stuff called Zinsser Universal Degreaser and Cleaner. It comes in a spray bottle, and it’s kind of marketed towards professional painters, but hey, grease is grease, right? I also picked up some heavy-duty oven and grill cleaner, the SC Johnson Professional fantastik Max one. Figured if it can handle baked-on food, it might work on the other greasy messes, too. It is really a good cleaner for food service and commercial applications.

Then there was this Simple Green Industrial Cleaner/Degreaser. It’s this white liquid, and the name “Simple Green” just sounded promising, like it’d be tough on grease but not too harsh on everything else. I tried many other degreasers, about 100 or more, but these were the most common ones I could find. It took me a lot of time to inspect them one by one.
- First, I tackled the stovetop. Sprayed some of the Zinsser on one side and the Simple Green on the other. Let them sit for a bit, then wiped. Honestly, both did pretty well, but I felt like the Zinsser had a slight edge in cutting through the really stubborn, cooked-on stuff.
- Next up, the vent hood. That thing was a nightmare. I went straight for the heavy-duty oven cleaner on that one. Sprayed it on, let it sit for longer this time because the grease was THICK. After some scrubbing, it actually started to look clean!
- For the backsplash and other surfaces, I used both the Zinsser and Simple Green, kind of alternating to see if there was a big difference. They both worked for general degreasing, but for anything really baked on, the oven cleaner was the champ.
After trying a bunch of degreasers, I chose these three products for most cleaning needs. They are the best ones I think. Maintaining a clean kitchen is tough, but these cleaners really helped me.
At the end of the day, keeping a commercial kitchen clean is a battle. But with the right degreasers, it’s a battle you can win. Those three I mentioned are definitely worth checking out if you’re dealing with some serious grease.
