Okay, so I’ve been getting into making my own infused beverages lately. It’s way easier than you might think, and honestly, the results are pretty awesome. Let me walk you through what I’ve been doing.
Getting Started
First, I gathered my supplies. I mean, you don’t need much. Basically, I just grabbed:

- A few glass jars – mason jars work great, but really, anything with a lid will do.
- Some cheesecloth – you could also use a fine-mesh strainer, but I like the cheesecloth.
- My chosen liquids – I started with water, but I’ve also tried tea and even some spirits.
- My “infusers” – this is where the fun starts! Think fruits, herbs, spices… whatever sounds tasty.
The Infusion Process
Next up, I prepped my ingredients. This just means I washed everything really well, especially the fruits and herbs. I roughly chopped up any larger fruits, like strawberries or cucumbers, and bruised the herbs a little (just a gentle squeeze) to help release their flavors. I also used zest from citrus for a deeper flavour.
Then, I simply combined everything in my jars. I added my chosen liquid, tossed in my fruits/herbs/spices, and made sure everything was submerged. No fancy measurements here – I just eyeballed it. Don’t be afraid to experiment!
After that, it was all about patience. I screwed the lids on tight and stuck the jars in the fridge. The longer it sits, the stronger the flavor, generally. For most of my water infusions, I let them sit for at least 4 hours, or even overnight. For something like tea, it might be shorter, and for spirits, it could be days or even weeks!
Straining and Enjoying
Once I was happy with the flavor (taste-testing is key!), I strained the liquid. I lined a strainer with my cheesecloth and poured the infused beverage through it, catching all the solids. And that’s it! I had the option to then pour it into a nice pitcher or bottle and chilled it some more.
Seriously, it’s that simple. I’ve been making all sorts of combinations – cucumber and mint, strawberry and basil, even ginger and lime. It’s a fun way to stay hydrated, and it feels a little fancy, even though it’s super easy. I also experimented using other spices and herbs.
If I want to add any sweetener, I do that to taste at the end.
So, if you’re looking for a simple, tasty, and healthy way to spice up your drinks, definitely give infusion a try. You might be surprised at how much you like it!
