Okay, so I’ve been wanting a decent cup holder for my motorcycle for, like, forever. You know, for those long rides when you just gotta have your coffee or iced tea. I tried a couple of those cheap, flimsy ones you find online, and let me tell you, they were total garbage. One bump and my drink was all over me and the bike. Disaster!
So, I decided I was going to do this right. I wasn’t going to buy some pre-made thing, I wanted something sturdy and custom-fit. I started by just kind of… staring at my bike. Seriously, I spent a good hour just looking at the handlebars, the frame, trying to figure out where the heck I could even mount something.

I finally settled on a spot near the handlebars, close to where the mirror attaches. It seemed like the most stable place, and it wouldn’t interfere with my hands or anything. Then came the fun part – figuring out what to actually use.
I went to the hardware store, and I must have looked like a crazy person, wandering around with a measuring tape and muttering to myself. I ended up grabbing a few different things:
- A sturdy metal U-bolt – the kind you’d use for pipes or something. This was going to be the main attachment point.
- Some rubber padding – to protect the bike’s finish and provide some grip.
- A metal cup holder, looks like a large stainless steel mug without handle, which can hold my coffee cup.
- Some nuts, bolts, and washers – obviously, to hold everything together.
Back home, the real work began. First, I wrapped the handlebar area where I was going to mount the U-bolt with the rubber padding. This took some fiddling, cutting and trimming to get it to fit just right. Then I placed the cup holder where i wanna fixed. Then, I attached the U-bolt around the handlebar and the padding, making sure it was snug but not so tight that it would damage anything. This was the trickiest part, getting the angle right so the cup holder would sit level.
Used nuts and washers fixing cup holder and U-bolt, make sure they are very very tight, I don’t want any accident happened again!
After a few adjustments (and maybe a few cuss words), I got it all bolted together. I gave it a good shake, and it felt solid. Like, really solid. I put my travel mug in it, and it fit perfectly. Success!
I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and it’s been awesome. No spills, no wobbles, just pure, caffeinated bliss on the open road. It might not be the prettiest thing in the world, but it’s functional, and it was way cheaper than buying some fancy motorcycle-specific cup holder. Plus, I built it myself, which always feels good.
