Today, I decided to tackle a small project: organizing my beverage containers. I have tons of water bottles, travel mugs, and various containers scattered around my kitchen, so it was time to get them in order.
Starting the Mess
First, I pulled everything out of the cabinets and drawers. You wouldn’t believe the pile of stuff I had accumulated! It was like a mountain of plastic and stainless steel. I had water bottles from who-knows-when, travel mugs I’d forgotten about, and even a few sippy cups left over from when my kids were little.

Sorting Through
Next, I started sorting. This was the hard part, I think.
- The first pile was for the “keepers” – the everyday water bottles and mugs we actually use.
- Then, I made a pile of my water bottles to be “recycled” – the old, mismatched, or slightly damaged.
- Lastly, a “donate” – those were in good condition but we just didn’t need them anymore.
I threw away anything that was cracked, leaky, or just plain gross. No point in keeping stuff that’s not usable, right?
Cleaning Up
After sorting, I gave the keepers a good wash. Some went in the dishwasher, others I washed by hand. It’s amazing how much better things look after a little soap and water.
Finding a System
Now for the organization part! I found a couple of large bins that fit perfectly in my cabinet. I may put all the water bottles in one, and the travel mugs in another. This way, everything has its place, and it’s easy to grab what I need without digging through a jumbled mess.
All Done!
Finally, I put everything back in the cabinet, all neat and organized. It’s such a small thing, but it makes a big difference. Now, when I open the cabinet, I don’t feel like a beverage container avalanche will make my day terrible. Plus, it’s easier to find what I need, which is always a win! I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!
