Okay, so I’ve been seeing these amazing-looking Alaskan desserts all over my feed, and I just had to try making some myself. I’m no pro baker, but hey, gotta start somewhere, right?
Getting Started
First things first, I looked up some recipes. I wanted something that felt “Alaskan,” you know? I found a few that used local berries and stuff, which sounded awesome. I ended up picking a couple that seemed manageable – a berry crisp and some kind of sourdough cookies (because sourdough is big up there, apparently!).

The Berry Crisp Adventure
The berry crisp seemed pretty straightforward. I grabbed a bunch of mixed berries from the store – blueberries, raspberries, the works. I think they were frozen, but that’s okay, it’s not like I’m in Alaska picking them fresh!
- I tossed the berries with some sugar, a little flour (to thicken things up), and a squeeze of lemon juice.
- Then I made the topping. This was just flour, butter, brown sugar, and some oats. I used my hands to kind of crumble it all together until it looked like… well, crumbs!
- I dumped the berries into a baking dish, sprinkled the crumble on top, and popped it in the oven.
The recipe said to bake it until it was bubbly and golden brown. It smelled amazing while it was baking. I think I baked it for like, 45 minutes? Something like that. I just kept checking on it until it looked right.
Sourdough Cookie Experiment
The sourdough cookies were a little more… interesting. I don’t have a sourdough starter, so I found a recipe that used a “quick” method with baking powder and baking soda. Honestly, I have no idea if it tasted anything like real sourdough, but it was worth a shot!
- I pretty much follow the recipe, mixed wet and dry ingredients.
- Then scooped them onto the baking sheets.
I baked those according to the recipe too. They came out… okay. A little flatter than I expected, but they tasted pretty good! They had a slightly tangy flavor, which I guess is the “sourdough” part.
The Verdict
So, my Alaskan dessert adventure was a bit of a mixed bag! The berry crisp was definitely a winner. Super easy and delicious. The sourdough cookies were… well, they were edible! I might need to work on those a bit more. But overall, it was a fun experiment, and I got to try some new things. Maybe next time I’ll try to find some actual Alaskan salmon to cook… Wish me luck!
